My shoulder hurts like hell!
My BIL Randy today took me out for my first practice, learning to shoot the 30 aught 6 for deer hunting in a couple weeks.

That damn gun KICKS! :wow:

But I'm getting a tiny bit better.

Going to wait until Sunday to go out again to practice.

8. I shot my BIL's semi-auto
He has a Remington 12-gauge semi-auto, it doesn't kick that bad.
We had fun blasting tin cans and soda cans full of holes.

Years ago, I had a REALLY old 16-gauge.
It was made in 1910, single shot, break-action, and to fire it I had to first pull the hammer back and cock it.

Sold it to my Dad for $200, my Dad still has it.

BTW, it shoots fine.

3. Don't leave a gap between the stock and your shoulder...
Keep that gun tucked tight against your shoulder. Pull it back on the front stock like you want to shove it through your back.

Slings are good too, if you have never used one.

6. I think that's what I did...
And didn't realize it.

Still smarts though.
Going to buy a butt pad for the rifle.

7. I am sure of it. If you absorb the recoil with your body, you cannot
hurt yourself.

4. It's been so long
since I've done any outdoor sporting, and that includes camping.

I can't wait to go fishing when I get back to Michigan. It's too damn cold right now in Alaska, and I don't have any gear.

9. Reminds me of the first time i ever shot a 30/6
I was around 10 years old - shot it off and the damn gun knocked me clean on my ass. Had a nice welt on my shoulder for a while too.
