I have noticed that NPR is starting to drink the kool-aid which suprised
me. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed it too.

2. About 9 months ago, and I've gotten flamed for saying so. They turned
and I won't donate again.

3. Seems to me they drank it after the 2002 midterms
I haven't been able to listen to them since ... They're probably trying to protect their funding, but they've definitely been OVERLY balanced (i.e., 2-to-1 advantage Repugs) since around that time.

15. I agree that it was most noticable during the midterms
but it went as far back as the 2000 election.

5. It has been going on for a while. I used to work for NPR
and things are quite different there now.
I made this for some of my old buddies, with most of whom I no longer associate.

10. I agree. It has been getting worse over the last few years.
As a former employee of an NPR/PBS station, they both lost my respect long ago. PBS has been a lost cause since Pat Mitchell took over the reins and NPR's demise followed thereafter. Ira Glass once said he would never work for PBS because it had all of the same limitations and problems as commercial television, so I have often wondered how he could continue with NPR now that it is also a corporate whore. Neither organization will ever get another dime from me.

6. Ok, so let's ban PBS, NPR, everyone who is at all supportive
of ideas that are not our own. Sound familiar? Good. Always need to recognize Freeper logic. If you can't recall what TV was like before public stations, you can't realize the good they do too. And the fact that most of their funding comes from corporate sponsors and individual donors. None of these public media outlets get as much money from the gov't anymore.

7. Don't forget that both of these outlets are essentially government
agencies. In essence no different than some kind of Soviet or third world banana republic broadcast. Perhaps they are even worse, since they are also tied to large corporations, including sweethearts like "Kean - global outsourcing - we get IT done!", and "ADM, farmers of the world"

8. You're gonna be surprised by the consistant change in tone.
NPR is, in spite of their reputation, essentially an establishment-beholden corporation. They tow the party line (of those in charge of tax breaks and grants, to wit; the U.S.Congress) because they've become coopted by the apparent thirst for government $$$.

Also, because there is such a potential for punitive government action via the FCC, until they feel it's once again safe (from retaliation) to tell the truth, get used to them sounding like born-agin shrublet-lovers. It's nauseating actually. They were much more interesting when they were new; they were hungry and had an edge then.

I'd suggest http://www.kpfa.org/ if you're interested in a more objective radio-experience. If you essentially are comfortable with NPR, Pacifica Radio may take a little getting used to, but it's excellent overall.

14. Problem is, Pacifica is pretty biased too
And not AAR biased but Far far left biased....and completely out of reality. And, unfortunately, out of the loop. For me Amy Goodman is the only real voice of reason on the network.

But don't take my word for it...

And yes, except for a handful of stations, NPR is a conservative outfit.

9. Been noticing it for a while.
Corporate sponsorship has been gaining. For example, a year ago NPR got $200M from McDonald Heiress Joan Kroc: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1494600

PBS is also going downhill. Jim Lehrer is showing his true Texan colors--that show lost credibility when MacNeil left. Here's a story about how he apologized for remarks made by Christian Parenti connecting Halliburton and Bechtel to Iraq as not being fair and balanced: http://www.commondreams.org/news2004/0318-06.htm

I do think there is still a lot that's good on both NPR (Fresh Air, Living On Earth, and some editions of ME, ATC, and TOTN) and PBS (most notably, NOW and Frontline). Still, for true indy media, ya gotta rely on the web.
