Supporting Blue States when shopping; where on-line?
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 09:04 AM by blondeatlast
One of my favorite online spots is based in Chicago, so no problem there; they even have actual human beings with Chicago accents who answer the phone and know what they are doing.

Edit: http://www.newport-news.com/

I love to do as much of my shopping as possible on-line, so help me out.

I ALWAYS use Powell's books, too; progressive company, I'm told, and when buying used, no one can beat them since they actually BUY the books rather than acting as a third-party seller.

Edit2: It really makes you appreciate actual human beings, I'm telling you!

Try running "Hudson Bay Company" Great department store, "Holt Renfrew", very upscale Department store. Pretty much run anything and add Canada.

3. LL Bean is in Maine
But I'm not aware of their political leanings as a company.

4. LL Bean duped their employees into listening to Guliani Kerry-bash
They told their employees it would be a 'motivational' meeting.

6. Seems I'm Not the Only One Waking up This Morning
with something similar in mind. We need to have our best organizers work on identifying the worst among RW-supporting companies and foster a movement that denies them the dollars that further their agenda.

7. As far as airlines
Northwest is Minneapolis based and has its largest hub in Detroit.
United is Chicago based and has signifigantly large operations in San Francisco, LA, and Chicago. JetBlue is based in Connecticut.

The rest are all red-state based.

9. it's a dumb idea
First of all, buying stuff from blue states doesn't punish the red ones. What about the blue workers in red states? What about red workers in blue states?

And you may be helping a bad business.

Consider the following:

Amazon.com is based in blue WA state, but the company is anti-union, pays its workers shit, and outsources heavily.

It's overly simplistic and naive to think you are "aiding the cause" by shopping online from "blue states". No wonder I quit all this save-the-world-all-liberals-are-going-to-heaven-bullshit - you all scrap reason and sound economics for emotions.
