What are some of the characteristics of a human Alpha female?

I told my wife I think she is an Alpha female.

Help me out folks.

I've encountered that type a few times. Since I'm the same way to an extent, it got very heated at times. :scared: In certain areas we males are just inferior when it comes to argument. For example, women can usually recall dozens of slights, real or imagined, that occurred months or even years ago, and dredge them up as ammunition for an unrelated argument. I forget them instantly. :dunce:

If you feel that way when considering the effect of this thread upon her, then I'd say she's either exceptionally high-strung, or an alpha female.

besides I promised to try to find some support of my statement-I've seen the fully developed alpha female in her at times--and survived!

And I congratulate on a mate you obviously admire.

But on a more serious note: are human beings really classifiable as alpha or beta? I thought psychologists/sociologists debunked this years ago, along with Social Darwinism and eugenics. As you so aptly pointed out, most people (inclusing your girlfriend) aren't one dimensional.

Is strikingly similar to dog behavior. (no insult) Dominance traits include things like always setting the agenda, refusing to concede any point of discussion. Control over finances. The list is long. People respond to motivation in different ways. Working with programmers is very different than working with graphic designers, in my experience. Alpha traits are not bad as long as they are not always focused on you.

Subtle rewards and correction can mitigate this behavior. Providing she isn't a psychologist and knows what you are up to.

That's one of the reasons I first adopted some version of it when we, as a family went online about 7 or 8 years ago.

We are also nature lovers including wolves and coincidentally that was about the same time the wolf pack was reintroduced into Yellowstone.

We all adopted names with some wolf related name.
Since then they've drifted away from that.

But I've always been amused at how some of the people, especially males of RW persuasion seemed to immediately take offense at my screen-name when I am on some boards.

Coming from this proud, self-described Alpha Female, I say that I do battle to win, but I am also fiercely protective as well as nurturing to those in my family and larger group.

There is usually one place in the main living area in which there is a chair of "power." Alpha controls the chair.

Toilet seat left up or down?

Whose job is it to clean? Who is "helping out" when they clean?

Who rears the children? Who is "babysitting" when the official child rearer isn't available?

Takes no shit under any circumstances.

Knows just how to get what she wants but generally doesn't have to resort to sneakery because, well ... she's just always right :)

Will throw herself in front of a moving bus to protect her children and/or those she loves.

Doesn't leave things 'up to committee' when action needs to be taken.

five brothers and no sisters did it; I remember the one single time I ratted them out - they had my face pressed in dirt for a long time. :o

Also Alpha females tend to unite with an Alpha Male in work situations and usually combine strenghts. Case in point: Bill and Hilary.

In fact, Bill and Hilary are a perfect example of an Alpha Male/Female relationship.
