Just smoked my very last cigarette
I'm not sure what kind of a person I'm going to be over the next few days. If I turn into a real nicotine-withdrawling bitch, everyone just ignore me, okay?

1. You are a brave person!
I congratulate you on this endeavor. I have never had to break this addiction, but I have always admired people who have tried! Your lungs will thank you over and over. Good luck!

3. just think about the RED states that not only grow tobacco but the
government subsidizes the industry as well. Every time you want one, remember....

4. I quit cold turkey in January
The next three days will be hard, but after 72 hours, the actual physical cravings will subside. Remember, take it one hour at a time.

A website that helped me a lot was:

http://www.whyquit.com

Just reading some of the info there made me mad enough to get through those first days.

It's not easy, but you CAN do it!!

24. That place looks great. I just joined. They have support groups for
people with all kinds of interests, including a quitters for Kerry Club that looks like a pretty friendly place for DUers.

6. Be strong
Take the money you'd buy cigarettes with and put it in a jar for a very special present.

Another tip from when I quit. Time the interval between cravings. It may be constant at first. Then, every few minutes. As it starts to stretch out, you have almost instant success.

You can do this.

12. Yes. Outlive the Bastards!
Environmentalist author Edward Abbey used to say, "We'll outlive the Bastards!"
Unfortunately Uncle Ed didnt. But its a sound strategy, nevertheless.

27. No, he lost because he tied Bowles to Clinton
You'd have thought Bill Clinton was running for Senate from NC from looking at all the ads.

8. You will be fine.. congratulations
Here is some advice...

Drink plenty of water. LOADS OF IT>. flush your system faster

OWN all ugly comments and attitudes you pronject because the world did not turn against you, you are just going through withdrawals.

If you have some sleep aids or maybe some sort of sedative you might want to lock yourself up and try to sleep through the next four days.
Take a very suspensful book with you to soak up your nervous tensions.

When you have huge feelings that you need one just take a deep deep breath and hold it in for a while.. each time you have an urge if you do this and know the urge wil pass you will be ok.

Good luck..hang in there.. its worth it.

Remember bladder cancer sucks.. thats from a cancer survivor..
Females .. yuck.. loss of your bladder really messes with your life! I was 38 when I got it! Luckily I had a great female dr and I managed to keep my bladder. Marlboro man with a bladder bag instead of a saddle bag is an image I'd like to see on no smoking ads.

11. Congratulations!
Quitting nicotene is a very worthwhile project.
I havnt had any tobacco for 4 years now. I havnt WANTED any tobacco for 3 years and 10 months.
If I can do it, ANYONE can!

I know you didnt ask, but heres some things I learned when I quit:
Drink lots of water. (I especially enjoyed club soda (fizzy water)when I was undergoing deep quit.)
Crutches are okay (as long as they dont involve lighting up.)
I was finally able to quit using Welbutrin.
If you get depressed, get treatment.
I wasnt able to quit for good until after I got effective help for depression.
Throw out your bathroom scale and tight clothing for now.
I gained ~12 pounds at first, but it came off by itself, eventually. Now I weigh 10 lbs LESS than when I smoked. WITHOUT any intentional exersize or dieting.
An online support community called, "quitnet" was very helpful. VERY.

If you need to cry, Cry. If you need to get mad, Haul off and get mad. If you need to spend all day in a sudsy bathtub, do it. None of these things will ruin your quit. The only, ONLY thing that will ruin your quit, is if you light up.

I am SO very thankful to be free of tobacco. Quitting was the best thing I've ever done.

13. You can do it! My last one was election night!
It is no fun--and you have to resist the urge to rip the heads off everyone you know--but I'm told the worst of it passes in just about three days...

We both can do this!!!!

26. Well, I gave my word.
A friend of mine lost his Dad to lung cancer and I promised him I'd quit as soon as the election was over...

I started on Wellbutrin (Zyban) a couple of weeks before the election, smoked my last one after Ohio was called for Bush, and I've not had one since. I have to admit, I am incredibly grateful for the anti-depressant part of the Zyban!

And consider the patch or Nicorette - it works in a tight spot.

Oh, and if you get angry from withdrawals, take it out on the first Evangelical you find ;)

16. Congratulations. I just my smoked my last one this morning.
Now that I have survived the election blues and returned to righteous anger, I figure I can channel the nicotine fit fury in productive ways.

And I'm not giving any more money to the crappy * supporting tobbaco corporations.

YEAH for us!

I don't know anything about who they donate too, but given their charity work they seem like a very progressive company.

17. Good for you!
Use every trick you can think of, and take to heart the comments in this thread. Nicotine is an insidious addiction, and will be on you worst at your most vulnerable. Don't get discouraged if you use again, but pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again.

21. Don't think like that
"my last cigarette," all that terminal shit. Doesn't help; or it didn't help me, anyway. Way I gave up, I just said "I'm not giving up; I'm just concentrating on not smoking right now." Nearly two years later I'm still not smoking right now. So far so good.

Good luck!

23. I quit in January...
After smoking for a decade. I'm not going to lie, the first 10 days were hell. As the nicotine and other chemicals drained from my body, I got anxious and irritable, unstable and moody. I was even paranoid. But then it got easier. I had to conciously NOT smoke for the first month... just kept reminding myself that I didn't want a cigarette. Then it became true. I still have dreams that I cheated and smoked a cigarette, then wake up feeling guilty, but they're fewer and farther between.

One thing I did: I saved all my cigarette money in a jar. I used to smoke 2 packs a day (frightening, I know), so every day, I put $8 into the jar. When I had $500 (which added up fast), I used it to get my teeth whitened.

Good luck. It ain't easy, but you'll be so glad you did it.
