Completely commercial vanity post... my website is up!
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 06:40 PM by DrZeeLit
I've been catatonic over the election, so I haven't been sewing.
In addition to being an English professor, I design and sew handbags.
Well, today I put up my website again.

If you are looking for a handmade Christmas (or any holiday) present, check out my work.

If you don't see exactly the right colors or have an idea for something else, you know where to find me. As in ...here.

http://zeebagsvt.biz

Shamelessly SELLING my wares!
Nothing else to do this Saturday night.
Oh, besides hanging out in the Lounge, I mean.

1. English prof? Forgive me, but...
hocking your wares?
I'm pretty sure it's "hawking".
I could be wrong.

4. I'm ignoring grammar since the election. I suppose that goes
...for spelling, too.

Hawking? Hocking? Hmm, maybe SELLING would have been a better choice?
Oh well.

Mistake must be my middle name.
Hmm, English professors don't make mistakes, huh?
Oh we do, we do.

I could be grumpy but someone else has that screen name.

15. Wonder where the term comes from?
This calls for more research.

19. Hey! Hey! I swore off grammar, remember.
Even though it didn't actually help the outcome of the election, I feel that my personal grammar sacrifice delivered New Hampshire. Well, that and maybe my many trips into the state to knock on doors.

Still, I gave up grammar for a good cause. So, be kind!

7. I can't change those template items.
I took the easiest way out. I found space on a server that had templates to set up the sites, and would process credit cards.

Did I make another mistake? I did a little research, but must admit that I didn't do a great deal of in-depth study. If you know of better servers or services, I'd be glad for the information.

Thanks for the design advice. I'd certainly use it if I could.

10. Those theme-based systems took jobs away from designers.
I being one of them.

And with new scanners promoting picture correction technology (which do sacrifice image sharpness to do blanketing effects), people who do photo restoration services will be out of luck too.

13. Oh, you were never an option for the likes of me.
My only other option was doing the site myself, using software here on my very own Mac G5.

If I could afford a web designer I certainly wouldn't be sewing handbags. I'd be... Kate Spade... by now.

Sorry about the job loss.

17. Yes, great hyphenation. Couldn't have done better myself!
And I really love hyphenating long lists of words-that-connect-in-great-phrases-that-sound-cool.

5. My two cents
A personal website reflects the style of the one who made it.

It may not always be complete. It may or may not use some graphical polishing.

But it's the content.

Your site has a nice autumn theme to it, which is pleasant and relaxing.

If anything, I'd format the picture so the text would be to the site of it instead of jarringly below it, and add that leaf pattern on the right side and bottom to enclose the page entirely. The all white right side seems to trail into infinity. (having the content centered in the browser window would be nice too.)

(My own site isn't perfect either and I do need to fix it up as well!)

Which is "less is more".

It is more reflective of me, as a person...Which is "more is more".

8. For my misuse of words, or for my blatant commercialism?
I wanted to make money for the holidays.
Obviously, I'm not going to make it via the Lounge.
Hmmmm.
Gotta re-think my advertising budget.

And do you think anyone here will buy a handbag?
Or should I join another forum?

Decisions, decisions!
