It?s November 5th, just days after the election. Like many gay Americans, I?m still shocked to have discovered this week that my fellow citizens are so uncompassionately conservative. I can understand Texas going for Bush, and perhaps Utah and Mississippi. But the fact that a majority of Americans voted for hyperconservative values makes me really sad.

Today I enjoy many of the benefits the Democrats were promising in Kerry?s bid for the White House. I have free universal health care and cheap prescription drugs. Our economy is booming?there are plenty of jobs. I have inheritance rights with my partner, and we file joint tax returns. We have lots of energy resources right under our feet.
And if we choose, my partner and I can get married and have it recognized not only by our friends but by our government. (more)
