What is the DUMBEST repuke talking point you've had repeated to you?
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 07:35 PM by theexpat
By friend or (god/goddess/allah/buddha/satan/shiva/non-existent-deity forbid) family. This also includes the bullshit spewn out by rush, o'reilly, hannity, ann da man, etc.

For me, it's when my ex-stepfather triumphantly repeated some B.S. he heard on rush about how we don't need to worry about global warming, because if we dump a few million tons of iron filings in the ocean the resulting increase in algae will soak up all the CO2. I asked him about what proof he had that it would actually work, and he didn't have anything. I then asked him, assuming it actually works, what about the impact all that oxygen-consuming algae would have on the ocean, and the millions and millions of people who depend on it to survive. He just kinda stared at me, then grumbled 'Well it still sounds like a good idea' and walked off in a fuss. It was the last time I had to be subjected to any of that crap by a family member.

On edit: I should have been more specific. This is meant mainly for kooky/whacked out RW ideas. Blatant fallacies such as 'We're safer' or 'Saddam had WMD's are not exactly what i'm looking for, but post away if you want to. :D

Them: Homosexuality is against nature.

Us: The natural occurrence of homosexuality has been documented in more than 550 species of animals, some to the exclusion of heterosexual coupling even when opposite-sex partners are in abundance.

Them: Well... PEOPLE AREN'T ANIMALS!

54. Soylent Green
Futuristic movie from around 1970, the world is overpopulated and undernourished. The government has been making a series of different colored meal crackers out of progressively more and more abundant stuff - soy, for instance. By the time they get to the Green color it's necessary to "promote" people at early ages, due to lack of space and food. So the Soylent Green cakes turn out to be processed dead people. Charlton Heston, and btw Edward G. Robinson's last movie.

46. I hate that.
I read recently that homosexuals in populations actually benefit--and may be essential to the survival--that population, no matter the species. I can't remember where I read that, otherwise I'd give the reference. Well, anyway, I was disgusted when a Repuke once remarked that kids raised by gay couples would "grow up messed up." I started to say "how can you say that?" but before I could even finish, she yelled, "Hey, I'm entitled to my opinion!" Sheesh. I didn't say anything. What I should have said, in hindsight, since she wasn't willing to let me defend my position, was say, "Yeah, but yours is an uninformed opinion ."

About the whole "people aren't animals" thing: they're half right (much as I hate to admit it) and half wrong. Humans are technically animals. It's their ability to shape nature (building things) that separates them from other animals. So people are a special kind of animal. But to say that to a fundie, you'd think you were offering them the biggest insult anyone could give to any other person. Of course, there are plenty of good insults we do know for them.

11. They hid all that WMD in the sand, and they sent it to Syria
I heard this BS 3 days ago.

I told them that if there was a mass movement of stuff to Syria, our satellite recon would pick it up. I told them that I worked on the systems that were used to do this 20 years ago, and that it worked.

So either 1 of 2 things has happened. The systems that worked 20 years ago, no longer do, so we simply cannot track things like truck convoys, bunker construction, missle testing, and open air testing anymore.

Or if that's not true, somebody in the government is lying.

16. The liberal media should be forced to apologize for lying about the
missing munitions at Al-QaaQaa.

Me: What lie did they tell?

Them: Kerry blame Bush for those missing munitions, and they were never there.

Me: Number 1, Kerry is not the so called liberal media. Furthermore, an embedded film crew from Minnesota has film of the munitions with the UN tags on it that show the stuff was clearly there after troops visited the area. We know from the UN inspectors that they tagged the stuff and had inventory lists of the material, so we know what was there. So why should the "liberal" media apologize for getting the story right?

Them: Well they hid all those WMD in the sand and sent them to Syria...

Me: Which did they do, hide them in the sand or send them to Syria, and how do you know that?

Them: Its obvious. We need to kill them all.

Really, Hans Blix? That always shuts them the fuck up.

"Gay marriage will destroy the sanctity of marriage" Tell me how 2 people getting married threatens your marriage, your ability to provide for your family. You usually have to guide them back to this question, because they have no answer, and will tend to go to a canned spiel I have no time or patience for.

"Saddam was evil and needed to be removed." How was that our job or business?

there was this one closet freep girl i was dating (i told you all about her a few weeks ago, and we've since gone our separate ways)...and on our last date she tells me she actually rented F/911, she said, "because i want to see it to understand what people are saying"

so i'm pretty excited, thinking i have a chance to get her to change teams (she's a borderline freep with some liberal positions, but she's pro-business, pro-military, anti-reg, etc.)

so we start watching, and she's remaining pretty interested throughout the movie...twice she just started yelling at the TV like Michael Moore was going to answer her back--Once when he showed the soldiers' casual attitude toward the war (let the motherfucker burn!!), and she starts screaming stuff like "what do i care what they think? these soldiers are mindless robots...paid to fight and not think!!"
I swear my jaw hit the floor, since this is a girl with brothers in the USAF.

but the kicker was when the movie was talking about the selling out to the saudi connections, and i swear, she gets up and screams "What's the big deal?? So bush is not allowed to have ANY business connections at all??? EVERY president had business deals!! CLINTON had business deals!! This is BS!!!" said the girl for whom national security and antiterror were her number one topics.

the sad part was this was no ignorant country bumpkin...young (mid 20s) graduated with honors from Harvard, and certainly didn't grow up rich (her parents came over from eastern europe with nothing and became farmers in the midwest)...she's easily the smartest woman i ever dated (knows 3 languages) but woefully misguided...tragic

Probably the stupidest thing I've heard him say-- it was actually in one of his books-- was that Native Americans actually BENEFITTED from the Europeans, because before we came over they were all miserable and cold and starving to death.

O_o Um, WHO saved early European settlements from starvation by teaching them to plant corn? And were they all happy and warm and well fed after we put them on little reservations? ...Yeah. I never managed to finish that book... it stopped being funny very quickly. Where the hell does this guy get these ideas?!

Oh right. His big fat ass.

He also claimed that there were more trees in America now than when Columbus first landed. Also that volcanoes spew most of the CO2 in the air.

45. Recently
I made a point about all the people who died in Iraq.

"So World War 2 was bad" because so many people died.

Yeah. Because Iraq and Nazi Germany are the same damn place, and we went under the same circumstances.

Fuck that. This was the same paragraph he wrote that "you are as dead to me as America is to you." Not really. America is dead to me, it's just hiding.

47. We'll Never Have More Jobs If Those Corporations Don't Get More Tax Cuts
Told to me by a little woman who works four part-time jobs and has no benefits. Two of those jobs are through temp agencies. The other two with relatives - both good christian businessmen. One has been repeatedly sued for not paying his debts and the other has a business partner who recently pled guilty to wire fraud in a case involving an investment scam.

Same little woman told me that it was completely my fault that I am still unemployed. Apparently, I have a bad attitude and some sin in my life and God is punishing me. Has to be - God is messing with my money.

And she is worried for my soul because of my liberal beliefs.

MY REPLY: "It's BECAUSE I was in the military that I don't support Bush. For chrissake, while Kerry was getting shot at in Vietnam, Bush used his daddy's connections to leapfrog over hundreds of others to get into the Texas Air Guard, and he went AWOL from even that cushy job. Do you understand me? Bush deserted during a time of war! When last I heard, that was called 'treason.'"

BUSH-LOVER (after a stunned silence): "Well, if I was in a war, I'd still feel better with Bush than Kerry."

Stupid fucking people!!! :grr::nuke:

56. "John Kerry is a gigalo."
While I was sign waving with over one-hundred other Kerry-Edwards supporters, TWO, yes, ONLY TWO Bush people (both white older males) came to counter-protest. They were all alone on their corner, so me and this other girl decided to pay them a visit. When we approached, one of the men approached us and asked us "how do you like killing innocent babies?!?" And I answered back to him: "Heck! I don't know! Why don't you ask your dictator who's sending a lot of other families's babies off to Iraq?!?" Of course, he kept asking me why I support murdering babies. And then I kept talking about Iraq and how Bush has NO reason to continue sending our troops there. NEVER did he answer my questions or counter my arguments. Instead, he resorted to calling me "ignorant" and then he shouted "John Kerry is a gigalo!" I was thinking to myself "Ooookay...this guy isn't even WORTH arguing with. HE'S the one who's ignorant and stuck in the 1940's.

don't answer at all or change the subject. Like when you questions them about values and you say how moral is it to be killing innocent Iraqis. Or you ask them how can Liar Bush be your morals guy or the compassionate conservative? They clam up totally or change the subject or they get a smirky half-smile on their faces. THEY NEVER ANSWER.

I wonder how she plans to finance her retirement if the good lord is busy somewhere else?

65. Here's a couple of insane ones...

This was during the DNC.This freeper on a message board was spouting off shit, claiming that Barack Obama was a "token black" and actually claimed that the dems were racist and holding blacks down by all of our social programs, but the Republicans wanted blacks to succeed by teaching self-reliance?!? Of course later he critizes affirmative action because it gave " taking jobs from more deserving whites"
Another freeper said liberals were hypocrites because " we claim to be open-minded yet criticize Christians" WTF?? This guy also accused John Kerry of being the anti-christ.Oddly enough, he seemed to be obsessed with Nicle Kidman also.

75. not entirely inaccurate...
they can be good, assuming you're spending on something that is worthwhile like education or the infrastructure of the nation and not on tax cuts for rich people. Also, you shouldn't spend in debt toooooooooooo much.

breakdown:

Spending can stimulate the economy if you target it properly, and it may be necessary to spend more than you take in, assuming it isn't very much, not for a prolonged time, and is repaid when the economy properly recovers.

87. Exactly. Very Keynesian.
Small deficits are perfectly fine assuming they're repaid in a reasonable amount of time and the debt isn't too big, but one the size we have now really will sink the US economy if something isn't done about it soon.

Or when Cheney said John Kerry had been President then there would still be a Soviet Union. Like it had nothing to do with the people behind the Iron Curtain who faced down tanks and organized strikes during martial law and shit or Gorbachev or just the inherent shittiness of Soviet-style communism.

"I'm not getting into THAT discussion again..."
