Post-election questions

Today is not a day to rejoice or to mourn the loss or the victory of this presidential election to any specific individual. Rather, this is a day to ponder how this election speaks to who "the majority" in America surely must have become. This is a day to acknowledge the ascendancy of the twin notions that might makes right and that ends justify means.

This is a day to wonder how Christian evangelicals can espouse Jesus Christ on one hand and espouse military crusades on the other hand. This is a day to ponder how fiscal conservatives could re-elect Osama Bin Laden's huckleberry after Osama' s stated goal is the bankruptcy of America. This is a day to be amazed at how fiercely independent and freedom-loving country folk can cede their independence and freedom to an administration that would make them
dependent and captive.

This is a day to mourn the triumphs of two-dimensional discourse, absolutism, polarization, nationalism, parochialism, empty self-righteousness, myopia, self-absorption, discord, dishonesty, deceit, spin, trickery, fear mongering, shrillness, arrogance and swaggering machismo.

This is a day to be aghast at the triumph of blatant disregard for lessons of war, economy, theology and history.
