Why did you change your name?
I don't know why I ever picked my original name. I never liked it.

My new name is from the poem about birth days.

3. This is the original one I tried to sign up with
Didn't take, for some reason. I came back a few months later (8/03) with RatTerrier, a name that just popped into my head (must have been the dog barking).

I use this name on other message boards, so I thought I'd be consistent.

I keep misspelling it every time I logged in. Plus it's how I feel these days.

Not that I'll miss the old username too much; couple months ago I went and bought the domain name unidentifiedbassplayer.com, and .org, and .net. My ISP has a great deal where they'll tie all three to one set of files.

15. I always wanted the space
Kenneth is the name on my birth cert
Ken is the name I typically go by

Kenneth means Handsome
ken means knowledge, or range of wisdom

so I always wanted to be Kenneth ken, but when I registered nobody I saw had spaces, so I didn't know if I could use them (DU 1)

50. Ditto
Monica Lewinsky is so 1990's, besides it pissed off my son and never conveyed what I wanted it to. My intent was to say something along the lines "Monica Lewinsky is not impeachment material" or "If you think Monica was a scandal wait till Bush gets going" but it just didn't come across that way.

22. I signed up back in my college days...
Shanneee was my nickname for everything. I'm pretty sick of it! :)

I like Shananigans because when I was younger my best friends mom would always tell us "Don't get into any Shenanigans, girls" whenever we hung out. We always giggled because it was like "Shannon-igans"... Shannon being my real name.

So I played with the letters a bit and with Shananigans being my nickname...well...it seemed a natural change.

29. Because
Initially, when I registered, I accidentally typed in my full name, Marjorie Grisak. So, anyway, I tried to change it to a user name and I couldn't. And, I was tired of all my posts from here and everywhere else ending up on google under Marjorie Grisak or Marjorie (Drake) Grisak.

And noone really calls me Marjorie too much, except for my husband when he's mad at me. I'm just Margie, and I'm in Baja.

End of story.

38. When I first found DU...
...I didn't know too much about it. I thought I'd just post a little satire once in blue moon by playing a certain character (guess who).

I found out I liked the site a lot and there was much to discuss as myself--more than I expected--so I couldn't resist posting in my own voice, even though I still had the old name.

Now that the election is over, I've retired the old name due to its having a very limited function which I've outgrown.

Besides, I alwyas used to portray Bush as a funny nitwit and, in truth, he's actually an evil nitwit. There's not much funny about that.

sign in for everything under the sun, email, accounts, message boards etc, makes it easier for when I land on a site that I'm already registered for. But DU is more than a run of the mill site, so I shouldn't have a hard time remembering.

45. I was so excited when I found this site...
I just signed up with the first thing that came to mind. I've hated it ever since (my sisters used to call me stevie when they were making fun of me, urp.)

The new name is the one I use for online backgammon, comes from an excellent book by Farley Mowat, subsequently made into a movie. It also seems somewhat apppropos on a couple of levels, such as the terra alerts being like the little boy who cried wolf. Could alse be read as "never cry, wolf." No crying here, ready to fight for the truth, the mid-terms, impeachment and 2008!

51. I wanted some demarcation between the last four years
and the next four years. Also, "dirk" is my real first name and I always thought it was awfully unimaginitive of me. "Terran" speaks to a number of things about me--science fictiony, futuristic and thus forward looking, internationalist, globalist, one-worlder, technocrat, optimist. And plus I want to take back the word "terra" from Bush. :)

Hope y'all like it and that no one gets "confused". Like all that many people at DU gve a flip about me anyway! ;)
