FOOTBALL: Dave Wannsted (Miami) will resign tomorrow
Will be replaced by assistant coach, who will be replaced at the end of the year (by Charlie Weis, if the Miami owners have brain one in their heads). Just announced on ESPN.

2. I think they'll go after Bob Stoops
From Oklahoma, but Weis might be an option as well. Lets hope not. I want him to stay in NE.

3. Stoops won't coach NFL
I'd bet the house on it. Ok, maybe not the house, but at least a dollar.

10. There are no absolutes in football
And even though I'm an OU fan, I'm not going to let myself be blinded by wishful thinking. Someday The Visor is going to leave Norman. It's a fact. It many not be this year or this job or next year, but it will happen.

Stoops is a competitor. He wants to be the best at everything. Sooner or later the allure of winning a Lombardi trophy will get to him. It's in his nature. If he were a pro tiddlywinks player he would want to be the best at it.

4. Seems like he only got the job thru Jimmy Johnson
Jimmy Johnson hooked him up with another chance and he blew it.

Reminds me of the track record of a particular political party right about now.... hmmm, when you keep failing and failing - it's time for big chnage.

14. That's probably a good call
Wannstedt was an offensive tackle at Pitt in the '70s. I think he was a senior when Dorsett came in as a freshman and won the national title, rushing for something like 1600 yards.

8. Thanks Will
This is the first I heard of it. I'll have to hit the Dolphin message boards. They have been speculating on this for weeks. I thought Huizenga would wait until the end of the season.

We need a new GM as much, if not more, than head coach. Spielman always gets poor value in trades. We don't even have a #2 next year, surrendered to Philly for A.J. Feeley. Now it looks like that #2 will be the 33rd overall election.

The names will be flying: Nick Saban from LSU, Weiss, the young head coach at Cal.

The ghastly rumor is Steve Spurrier. Huizenga wanted him a few years ago, and apparently Spurrier is intent on restoring his reputation via another NFL job, not college.

9. Oh god, please tell me they're not hiring Spurrier...
Please?

That would be a horrendous mistake - worse than hiring Wannstedt was in the first place. Then again, Wayne still hasn't been punished enough for what he did to the Marlins after the 1997 World Series among other things, so if this is what Wayne 'has coming', then I guess it's worth it.

15. The South Florida papers are reporting Spurrier is pushing for the job
But he's not necessarily being considered at this point.

The interim head coach, BTW, is Jim Bates. He has been Miami's defensive coordinator, and formerly head coach of the mighty San Antonio Gunslingers in the late and lamented USFL.

Compared to Steve fucking Spurrier, anyway.

17. I'm hearing Nick Saban's name mentioned
I don't know about going the college route.

I'd be more comfortable with an up-and-coming coordinator like Weis or Crennel.

13. I've waited years for this day
Dave should have been gone after the Week 17 collapse two years ago in New England.

I despise what Dave Wannstedt has done to this proud franchise. Him and his crony Rick Spielman have taken a decent team and decimated it position by position. For instance, instead of having the 1st pick in the 2nd Round of the 2005 Draft, we have this stiff A.J. Feeley.

Dave may be a nice guy, but he's destroyed this franchise. I wanted to see him fired, not simply forced to resign.

18. You and trumad
I bet he's updating his website now. http://firedavewannstedt.com/ I just checked, and this is what's on the front page:

AND NOW we are hearing from the
Johnny-Be-Late fishrap pundits is fire
Wanny but do it at the end of the season.

I say Bullshit to that!
Wannstedt and Spielman are not to be trusted
with the keys to this franchise. They have driven it
far into the ground and will continue to do so
with the crazy notion that if they win a game,
their asses are saved.

FIRE DAVE WANNSTEDT!
NOW!

21. Good the AFC East needs a new coach to kick a lot of field goals
Same as always. The Pats and the Jets (CHAD!) have made it more interesting but just a little.
