Entering day 3 (or is it 4) without nicotine
I took great enjoyment in tenderizing the meat for dinner last night.

I watched professional wrestling and, for the first time, understood the need to slam someone's head into the steel steps.

I verbally assaulted the mail lady for being an hour late with the post.

The cats no longer sit near me.

My husband believes the military could have saved a lot of trouble by just sending me to march into Fallujah.

1. 5 months here...
It's hard, but you can do it. If you need someone to talk to, just let me know.

2. I feel your pain
I smoked for thirty years (19 to 49). No one could possibly have been more addicted than me. I tried to quit a thousand times. But finally, May 12, 1997, I had my last cigarette. Seven and a half years later, I feel great. The patch helped me. A warm bath every night was great. Food and coffee helped. But, as with most worthwhile things in life, it took some pain one-day-at-a-time. Hard work, but you can do it.

My only warning: don't depend on food TOO much. I gained thirty pounds that still "hangs around". But, I'm convinced, it's better than the coffin nails.

3. Hang in there baby
After 21 days, the nicotine will be completely out of your system and the cravings largely subsided. You can do it.

If you need stress relief, you can track me down and hit me.

5. Day #3 is the worst . . .
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 09:55 AM by Petrushka
. . . probably because that's the day when the last of the nicotine leaves your body--or so I've heard! In any case, I've been nicotine-free since August 23rd. One of the websites that helped me survive that first week can be found at the following URL:

http://www.stopsmokingonline.com

Edited to add that I had been a smoker for over 50 years.
Also: That "urge" for a cigarette passes in about 3 minutes--and, yeah, you can survive THAT long without a puff. Just say N-O-P-E: Not one puff ever!

7. hot sauce
I posted about two weeks ago for the same reason. Some wise person suggested I keep hot sauce nearby. When I get the urge to light up I take a drop of Tabasco. It does clear the head and take the mind off smoking. It helped a lot when everything was irritating the piss out me.

Plenty of water helps as well, whether or not you use the hot sauce.

I am passed the need to smoke or kill someone. The gross coughing stage has helped me never want to smoke again.

Stick with it. Now is not forever. You made it this far. Good for you!

:)
