I love it. A good friend has the Tele, and I wish I had one of those too.

I just loved that one - had to click - it was like a wet paint sign.

But I am a very amateur player so what do I know? I used to own a Strat, had to sell it because we needed money. Have a Martin now. A gift from my dad, who plays a lot.

When I have the money, I'll be getting a Stratocaster, but if I can find a good used Flying V that's not too expensive, I'll buy it, just to annoy my friend Josh.

j/k. Chalk it up to ignorance of other Gibson guitars. I'm going all by looks, really. I'm a guitar n00b, you see.

Fender does get the marketing award. I've owned a Strat, a Tele, a Les Paul Custom and an SG, and I have to say, the SG had the best combination of playability, tone and ass-kicking looks. (To be fair, I was playing it through an old 100W Marshall...)

is my fave electric, but only good ones with good hardware. I guess that holds true for all electrics. I like Gibson hollow bodies too.

For acoustic, it's Martin all the way. Even the cheap ones are great!

...but it felt 'cheap'––especially the 'satin' finished neck. So, I bought a Guild JF55 jumbo. It's friggin' beautiful. And it plays and sounds great. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Martin D-45; I just don't have $4,500 to spare––$2,000 was plenty for me!

I think they go for between 6 and 7 grand these days. I've got a Martin HD-28 LSV and it is the best acoustic on the planet, except for one single guitar.

I'm a Martin man all the way!

but my favorite is my Fender strat.

It was one of the first ones that was shaped like an SG body! There is a picture of the very guitar on the Novo Combo album cover! It almost played itself! The picture of the guitar was taken after an automatic garage door closed on it and broke the body! The repair job was done by Gruhn Guitars and it was like new again afterward! I played it before and after repairs and could find no difference in the action! The guitar looked new after it was fixed! It's still around and I still get to play it often! No other guitar even comes close and the three pickups are mint and awsome with a tube amp!

for acoustic, Taylor Guitars hands down. My friend builds em, so just about all of my git playin buddies have one!

I love my Tele. It's by far the most versatile solid body guitar.

You can plug it into any amp, and it still sounds like a Tele.

For acoustic... any Taylor guitar is excellent.

Birdland (rare blonde) will be my next big purchase...love the short scale Jazz guits!

I like old Harmony U.S.A. (not the East Asian cheapies from the past 30 years) archtops. You can't go wrong with a 3-pickup Rocket.

Of course, I'd rather have a Gretsch White Falcon -- but I can afford to collect Harmonies. Maybe I'll buy a White Falcon once I'm on my fat Congressman's salary.

I own two Carvins. Believe me when I tell you as a pro and semi-pro, off and on since I was 19, there is no better deal out there for higher-end stuff than Carvin.

The first is the H2 in 'greenburst'. I know folks at the company, so I had it made fretless.

The second is the AC275-12, a semi-hollow acoustic 12 string that's blue.

For pure, heavy metal meets punk asshole fun, right from the rack, I've found nothing better than the Fernandes Vertigo Elite, baby.

Unfortunately, the rest of the guitar sounds like a Gibson. They ought to stick to making electrics; with the exception of some old J-45's and the new Advanced Jumbo, their acoustics bite. Just my opinion. But like I said, I'm a Martin fanatic.

........I have to disagree with how quickly you dismiss Gibson acoustics. I understand what you mean when you say that they make a lot of high-priced guitars that sound like crap. I have personally played quite a few high-end Gibson acoustics over the years that sound worse than than my run-of-the-mill Yamaha.

That said, there really are a lot of great sounding Gibson acoustics out there. After playing a ton of them over a long period of time, it seems to me that there's a whole lot of individual variation from one Gibson guitar to another. Take two Gibsons of the same model and one can sound fantastic while the other will sound dead. This was once again proven to me when I passed through Nashville a few months ago and stopped in at one of their great old guitar stores. As it happened, there were two Gibson LGO's there from the mid-60's. One of them sounded very good; the other one sounded dead.

From a guitar manufacturing point of view, it seems to me that Martin is FAR more consistent when it comes to producing guitars that regularly have that good, solid Martin sound. With Gibsons, on the other hand, there seems to be an incredibly wide disparity of sound quality from one individual guitar to another. That does not detract from the ones that really sound great. I played a Gibson Hummingbird a few months ago that knocked me out. But I've also played other Hummingbirds that were nowhere near as impressive. When I say I want a Hummingbird, I'm talking about the best ones I've ever played. And there have been more than enough of them for me to know that they regularly produce some knockout acoustic axes.

Bottom line, I will not buy a Gibson acoustic unless I've personally played it first. Where it comes to Martins, I feel like I could order a guitar from the factory and have pretty good confidence in its sound quality, but I would never do that with a Gibson.

But having that point of view does not change my love for the Gibson acoustic sound when they get it right on a particular instrument. It really comes down to what kind of sound you want. If you want an acoustic with a really bright, ringing sound, a well-chosen Gibson is second to none. I've played too many great-sounding Gibson acoustics to discount their quality. But I do acknowledge the great number of high-priced Gibsons out there that really aren't worth squat.

Martins, on the other hand, are ideal for that mellow, full-bodied sound that nobody else on earth has ever matched. I could never argue with their ability to produce a first-rate guitar. But when it comes to great acoustics that have a bright, ringing tone, nothing can touch a well-chosen Gibson when you've had the chance to play it personally BEFORE buying it. Gibson acoustics are well-regarded among professional musicians for a reason. There really are some fantastic sounding ones out there. You just have to be willing to hunt for the right one.

though I wouldn't mind getting a decent Strat or Tele to complement it.

plays like buttah! I've written a couple hundred hit songs you never heard (yet) on that guitar.

But I love my Tele too. Especially played through my late 60's Bandmaster. A guitar player I work with plays a Tele and makes it talk. He owns or has owned many amazing guitars: Strats, Les Pauls, Hamers, you name it. But his favorite is that Tele.

I also loved a Hamer once. Can't remember the model. I suck on electric though. Decent rhythm player, but for what I do, I pretty much stick to acoustic these days. Two different Takamines I use live. They take a licking and keep on ticking and they sound great. I play all sorts of different venues through all sorts of different sound systems, sometimes solo, sometimes in a duo and sometimes in a band. I'll take my Takamines any day for an acoustic used in an amplified setting. Always get a reliable, consistent, excellent acoustic sound.

Then there is my dysfunctional relationship with my Breedlove. Walnut and cedar. Wide nut. Great fingerpicking guitar. Sounds amazing in the studio. Rich, balance, a little bright like I like it, but with these huge warm, deep lows. I can never get a good live sound out of it though.

Now, my dream is an Olson, but shit, he doesn't even take orders anymore. Should have sucked it up and forked over the 5 grand when I had a chance a few years ago. Oh well. Someday when I'm old(er) and decrepit(er).

I'm a big fan of G&L instruments, having played an L-2000 bass guitar for years. Their version of Strats &Teles are really nice too. Plus many of their models are still Leo Fender designed!

As for my favorite guitar...a nice high end nylon-stringed classical! Something with a cedar top, or maple back & sides with a spruce top.

Nevermind yer Johnny Winter models with the big lobe at the "bottom" of the body and yer cutesy banjo headstock. Gimme the one that looks like Gibson's idea of a Strat with the P-90 pickups (the ones that cry when you push 'em too hard.) Plug me into a '66 Fender Band-Master with at least one dicey tube and it's Ladies' Choice at the juke joint!!!

Solidbody--Les Paul Standard (tobacco sunburst finish), Fender Telecaster (with 2 single coil pickups)
Hollowbody---Gibson 335, Telecaster half hollow, Rickenbacker (has a weird tinny sound doesn't always sound right, but sometimes is perfect)
Acoustic--I like Martins, but Ovation Acoustic Electrics are pretty cool

THE quintessential "Spanish" classical guitar. The guitar of Segovia, Parkening, and too many others to count...myself included. Now, if I only had the time to play as much as I'd want...

but I love me Ibanez AEF20TRS Transparent Red Sunburst Acoustic/Electric. It was sounding and feeling so delicious last night.
