If your cable compnay started offering stations on an ala carte basis....
Which stations would you keep and which would you kick to the curb?

Keep:

All local stations (excepot PAX)
C-SPAN
Nick (gotta have a stoned Spongebob session once in awhile :smoke: )
Cartoon Network (Gotta have Billy and Mandy and, of course Adult Swim.)
Fox Sports Net (I love the English Premire fottball matches)
All the ESPN Chanells
Food Network! (I love Iron Chef.)
Spike (for my Trek and MXC fixes)
A&E
AMC
TCM
Hallmark (ever since I discovered late night Hogan's Heroesa reruns.)
MTV (Pimp my Ride, Pimp, my Ride!)
VH1
GSN (Slide it, Earl!)

Scrap

EWTN (If I wanted to watch ranting fundie catholics 24/7, I'd watch a show featuring my weekly local newspaper's columnist, The Country Cousin.)
Fox News (obvious)
INSP (Those insane ass fundie motherfuckers scare me :scared: )
PAX (That network is nothing but a joke anyways, and will go tits up by this time next year if their new TV Series based on the Left Behind series doesn't bring in the fundiebots in droves.)
That Goat-roping redneck music channel GAC I think it's called (unless you start a channel that does all old school country like Johnny Cash, I ain't interested.)

There's others on both lists, but I can't think of them right now.

4. Hey, Watch The GAC Hating!!
Those are my initials. You'll make me feel bad!

Actually, i never watch that either. I'd keep a lot more than you, but i would dump any religiously affiliated channel. Just don't care so it would shorten the scan through the guide.

I'd keep all the sports stuff, i guess. Got to find my brain candy somewhere. I'd keep SciFi, i'd keep all the history, science, and stuff like that. I'd keep VH1 and VH1CR. And, all the movie channels.

Actually, i'd probably keep everything except the religious stuff and Faux.

6. I've wished for this for a long time
I haven't had cable for several years, BUT if they offered it on an ala carte basis (price reflective of that as well, I'm presuming)...

I would want:

C-span
Nick
Discovery Channel
History Channel
Food Network???
Local Stations
PBS

Perhaps a few others that I don't know yet (cause I don't have cable now)

7. I ditch the ESPN stations and gain Bravo
right now I have basic cable but I would love to have C-span, MSNBC (if you have to have one to catch the lastest "news", the one with Olberman would be it), Lifetime, TLC, Comedy Channel and Bravo. I wouldn't want ESPN, any of the religious channels, CNN or FOX.

8. If you could get stations a la carte (like you can with satellite service
in Japan), I'd order

local stations (for things like blizzard and tornado warnings)
PBS
News World International
The International Channel
Sundance
Independent Film Channel
BBCAmerica for its Monday night mysteries and Friday night retro shows
Ovation (if they expand their list of programs)
History International (more interesting than the Hitler Channel)
Discovery Science
USA (for "Monk")
The Comedy Channel
HBO
CSPAN 1,2 3

9. Great question!
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 12:16 PM by eataTREE
Keep:

Whichever network carries Jeopardy. (CBS, right?)
All PBS channels (we're lucky enough to have 3).
C-SPAN and C-SPAN2
ESPN and ESPN2 just in case there's ever another NHL game :(
Cartoon Network and Nick, for the kids
MTV, for the kids, and also because Pimp My Ride is a guilty pleasure
Bravo, for Queer Eye, which one day will rescue me from heterosexual slobbery
Food Network, both for Iron Chef and Emeril
Sci-Fi Channel, which is often entertaining in a campy way
Animal Planet (for Animal Cops, and Steve Irwin)
TLC (My wife loves Maternity Ward)
Comedy Central (surely I needn't explain this)
and, guiltiest of guilty pleasures: E! Where else can we watch a stoned Anna Nicole Smith freak out?

Punt:

Everything else. But singled out for my special approbation are:
All cable news channels; I'm coming to see that CNN and MSNBC are really no less biased than Fox.
The Hitlery, er, History channel. They really ought to rename themselves the War Channel, having forgotten that there's more to history than who kicked who's ass.
The Discovery Channel, which used to be cool and now runs content-free variations on "When Hippos Attack!"
Lifetime, WE, et al: Maybe it's just 'cause I'm a Big Dumb Insensitive Man, but there's only so much treacle I can take.

10. I'd love to do this, but DISH says it is cheaper to give
you everything. Bulk rates or something.

Besides, I can always lock out channels I don't like, I guess.
