I'm a hardcore liberal Democrat. I consider myself as liberal as the late Senator Paul Wellstone. I believe in everything he believed in. Heck, my favorite book in the world is The Conscience of a Liberal.

You'll find a broad range of Democrats here, so don't get too upset if they're not as progressive/hardcore liberal as you - most are working towards the same goals. :hi:

I thought it was odd that the exit polls were always right... then, along comes George W. Bush... and POOF! The exit polls showing he "lost" are wrong! AND, only when Bush loses! Then the media goes to an ad for a hummer... then they come back and say the exit polls say I have no morality or values because I voted for Kerry. Something is rotten in America & the media are involved. Where could I Go But To DU?

I don't know why I didn't join a long time ago. I thought I would become addicted, got addicted anyway. I've been lurking for so long that I feel like that I know so many of you personally. Felt terrible when Mari333 was going through fighting to keep her son and step son out of Iraq, and then when her husband died, I literally cried. After this "election" I wanted in and could not join up. Contacted the administration and begged to come on board. This is a family and this is what democracy looks like. That is why I am here.

By nature, I'm not a "joiner". But just before the election, I felt the need to venture out of the dark fringes and declare myself. I've declared myself so much at the office, I'm surprised I still have a job. On my exterior cubicle wall, I've posted a large sign, unfortunately updated daily, of a stark number in huge black font: the current American dead in the Iraq war.

If it weren't for DU, I would have gone mad in the last week. All the people I know who were angry on November 3rd, have announced they intend to "enjoy" their lives, and not waste their time worrying about Bush, because "it isn't going to be so bad".

Even after a few months here. I was very lucky in that I found my way here from a freeper site of all things! A co-worker sent me a link to a freeper site assuming I was as brain damaged as the rest of the people where I work and they have a forum specifically to mock DU.

Ever been in traffic and just cant help but stare at a car wreck? That's what it's like lurking at that site.

But the good thing, no not just good but GREAT, is that I found my way here from that site. My only regret is that I don't have more time to be here. Two jobs, one of which is part time min wage and the other full time barely above min wage doesn't leave much for quality time here. :(

I imagine we've had a rush of new members feeling disenfranchised after the election. I'd like to welcome them all here to DU myself!!! :)

It was the one were not allowed to name. I would thank my co-worker but they're all such rabid neocons there I would be taking a chance on losing my job if he mentioned it to our bosses. And I need this job too much to take that chance. :(

My friend showed me that thread and then I started reading all the other threads and it made me feel so much better after the "defeat" to know I wasn't alone. It took a while to join because the registration was down, but I'm persistant and... here I am. Very shinny and new and more dedicated then ever to get off my butt and do my part to protect what precious little freedom we have left.

I visited a couple times in early 2004, then joined and donated in May, and lurked a bit here and there. When I got ready to post in mid-summer, I had forgotten my password, but lacked the motivation to do anything about it.

By mid-October, I was about to burst with pent-up pontificating and extremely nervous about the election, so I got a new password and began jabbering away. I think the site and people are great! Yeah for DU!

Props to my great friend Frylock, who lives on the opposite coast and is one of my best friends of all time. :pals:

However, I do have this new problem with being a DU addict... :hangover:

Just registered tonite. Have been lurking for months. Last week after the "tragedy" couldn't get in here with forum closed to the unregistered. Suffered alone until finally could get back here to see everyone else was just as distraught.

Lurked for months, and when some posters indicated the forum might not be available around election time, I joined and immediately donated.

My first involvement in political forums was at AARP. My husband came home from work late last year and alerted me to the medifraud prescription bill. Joined the AARP forum, e-mailed my congress people against it, etc.

Not sure how I found my way here...might have been a google search for a Democratic message board, but so glad I found ya'll! (Texan by birth and lived there most of my life, but now I'm in Washington state and loving it!) :hi:

Someone from another site I post on is a regular poster here and I got turned on to DU that way. I don't get the opportunity to post much, but I'd be lost without DU. I tell all the lefties I know about it!

I was in a parking lot with my tailgate and it's 14 anti bush stickers and pro troops ribbons etc., and a little old lady stood there and read it all and told me about you.
About 2 weeks before the election. Then I told a few people, and have not really heard from them a lot since, because they are spending their time as some of the newbies....

...and begged Skinner to let me register (thanks Skinner!!). I am so grateful to you all for keeping me updated and sane. Very intelligent, funny people here. I feel like I am among friends.

Not sure which as I was skimming around all over the place the last 4 or 5 weeks of the campaign.

Then I tried to register in October and couldn't because I use a Yahoo email.

Then I had to figure out how to get the old email on my actual internet service reactivated.

Came back to register and site was closed until finally....
I got to register! And spend way too much time here.

Wish I had found this place long time ago, however.

Count me as another of those dark blue spots in a sea of red since I live in Fort Worth Texas. Apparantly Tarrant County gave Shrub the highest % of the vote for counties of over 1million population in the nation. A dubious honor, but those of us with intelligence voted for John Kerry.
