Tivo users: what is this one-minute off shit the networks are pulling?
Lost runs from 8:00 to 9:01... which means if you Tivo West Wing, it doesn't get recorded! And I see ER is now starting at 9:59, which means tivo won't record CSI if you watch it.

God, I hate bullshit tricks like this. Well, I stopped watching ER last season - I just couldn't take the suckitude anymore, and Lost was mildly interesting, but is now off the To Do list.

What other shows are pulling this crap?

3. yes
but the point is if somebody likes TWO shows, they have to choose between them. We're all used to doing that with two shows on AT THE SAME TIME but now people have to decide to give up a 9:00 show if they like a 10:00 show on a different channel. Stupid.

6. You can't do that on many DVRs.
It works automatically - if a show's scheduled at 10, the DVR starts the recording at 10, even if the network starts the broadcast at 9:59.

2. I believe WTBS started this crap back in the 80s
They were very open about starting and ending their programs 5 min off the hour. It was to prevent viewers from leaving the network.

My DVR has a setting to move the start / end time a set amount.

4. I had read in the paper a few weeks ago that some stations....
..will even off-set their programs on a day to day schedule going in a 3 minute window....1 1/2 before to 1 1/2 after... to screw up recorders.

5. That's exactly why they're doing it.

To thwart TiVo users. The networks don't like DVRs because they think no one will watch the commercials. It's stupid and shortsighted because for one, a study showed that DVR users watch more commercial time on average than non-DVRs, and using tricks like this isn't going to lure DVR users away from them using their DVRs. It will just make them miss the show completely and piss them off. I think that networks hire the marketing majors that came last in their class.

Edited for clarity.
