What is yourfavorite Star Trek: The Next Generation episode?

For those who like Trek. Mine is either "Yesterday's Enterprise" or "The Best of Both Worlds" two parter.

Great episode, every time I watch it, I tear up at the end.

wesley was such a dick... i was glad too see him go

an adult people would love him. Everyone says look at this punk a$$ kid saving the day again. I think Wesley served as a model for what a young person could do.

Also just for info: Wesley is the character modeled after Rodenberry himself (at the age of 15.) Also (if I remembered the story correctly) Wesley is in fact Rodenberry's middle name and Rodenberry really wanted the character on the show.



Episodes I liked:

The one with the lower class officers and upper class officers lives intertwining.

I also liked the end of the series.

he was just a kid. I thought for a kid he did very well. Now he's a big time Democrat.

or even understood how he could be on the show. My idea was just that they couldn't handle the idea that maybe a kid could actually have something smart to say or have an idea that adults could use.

For what it is worth All the other cast memebers hated to see the actor and the character leave (for the first time--starfleet school) Patrick Stewart have always spoken very highly about the actor and character.

The 2 part Borg episode.... If that were released as a movie, it'd be the best TNG movie.

I also love the one where Picard is abducted by an alien probe, and lives a decades long life, complete with wife, children, etc. in the space of 30-40 minutes. I forget the title of that one.

We see the reaction of a large number of people to the same situation, most of them don't agree, and in the end, despite events, no one has changed their mind.

It seemed to me very much the way life really works.

but it's one with Q where he takes them to a metaphor for his life ... there's a cabin and a road and the people are all bored because they have been everywhere and experienced everything there is to see.

Generally anything with Q is good for me.

Tapestry.

Where the other Q wanted to die because he was bored?

Tapestry was the one where Picard got to relive his life and ended up a nobody.

Yesterday's Enterprise and Best of Both Worlds seem to qualify.

It was funny and sad all at once, and she was pretty cute too!

Other than that, yeah, the Borg, and some of the Q episodes...I still remember watching the "Robin Hood " episode (with Data as Friar Tuck) with friends the election night Clinton won the Presidency! It was a fun night...

I also liked the two -part one where the Enterprise entered a wormhole and suddenly the future had changed, the Federation was losing a war against the klingons and Tasha Yar was back!

I loved that two-parter. I hated the "Wesley Crusher Saves Us All" season and was glad to see him leave.

Where the universal translator was no good, because they spoke in metaphor. Other than time travel, I hate the universal translator most of all, because really, isn't it the thrill of the new that is compelling about looking for life in the cosmos.

The third season of that show was great. Classic.

Personally, I like any episode without Wesley. I fucking hate Wesley. Wesley should have been rodgered heartily by Lt. Worf. Then I would have watched more episodes.

You know, I wasn't crazy about the Wesley Crusher character either (to put it mildly), but the actor Wil Wheaton is a pretty cool fella. Here's a little exerpt from his blog.

And wasn't he cute in Stand by Me? Cut they guy some slack - he didn't write the scripts or direct the acting.

Wesley Crusher, on the other hand, was a tool. No fault of Wheaton's of course.

My partner always thought that Picard was Wesley's true father- he was the one who introduced Beverly to her late husband. I think it would have given some depth to the Wesley character if that had been revealed, but I guess it would have been too melodramatic.

I mean, if you only speak in historical allegory, how the hell do you say "hand me the 9/16ths socket wrench" or "we're out of toilet paper"... I like the idea of that episode, and I loved the acting, but the central premise of the language was silly.

The one with the alien who can permanently imprint on a person, becoming said person's ideal mate and companion. She's being carried on the Enterprise to be married to some alien ruler guy as part of a treaty or something, but en route she imprints on Picard. As a result, she acquires Picard's sense of duty and loyalty, and leaves him to marry the alien guy because she knows it will be better for her people that way, even though she'll never see the man she loves again. *sigh* Most underrated episode ever. Very sappy. I loved it.

I agree, it's beautiful and touching. All the more so because it looked at the beginning like it was a stupid male fantasy come true, but they did so much more with it!

I've never fallen for a woman on screen like I did for her. She positively OOZED sensuality (sensualousness?) and sex appeal, but not at all in that crappy shitass slutty "Sports Illustrated" or "Hooters" kind of way. But totally in that Audrey Hepburn kind of way.

Bond movies - can't remember which one, though.

I didn't even recognize her. My partner, who tends to be utterly amazing differentiating people, said, "Hey - isn't that the woman from that one Star Trek episode?"

She also saw immediately that the kid who played Renee in "Family" was the same kid who played the young Picard in "Rascals".

I don't know how she does it.

I think I soiled my pants upon reading the episode description and being informed it was HER!

The "Descent" two-parter was pretty intense too.

fight as a young cadet with the Kiss looking aliens (where he got wounded in the heart). Kind of does a "It's a Wonderful Life" deal where he sees the man he would have become, the life he would have led had he made that choice (a drudge of a junior science officer--hey kind of like my life!). Even though I find Q quite annoying, I really liked this episode.

and i can't think of her name, but the actress who played picard's girlfriend went on to do a few good movies afterwards

Shifts the entire POV of the show to four low-level cadets on board the Enterprise, and shows how the main TNG characters would look to subordinate officers who do not know them intimately.

The scene that clinched this one as best for me was when Worf gives one of the cadets a traditional Klingon hand-to-hand-combat challenge in which she must fight him blindfolded, using only sound and instinct to track and defeat Worf, who is at no such disadvantage. When, after getting beaten around a bit by Worf, and not having much of a real chance against him blindfolded, but thinking she is failing because she isn't "using the force" to win, she finally protests that the test is unfair. Worf then reveals that there is no such "traditional Klingon challenge," and that the entire purpose of the test was to teach her to speak up earlier when someone assigns her an unreasonable task, so as to put an end to the beating sooner.

Love love loved it.

I must have missed this episode when the show first aired. I first saw it as a rerun I tivoed, and was glued to the screen. It remains one of my favorites.

Very scary parallel to current erosion of constitutional rights. Also smacked McCarthyism.

Many say that it was like the cuban missile crisis. Furthermore, if you listen to the last scene where the Romulan commander is talking to Picard, you will hear statements that smack of what is going on right now.

but everyone is right, there are so many great episodes.

the one where Barkley and everyone transform into weird Creatures because of the Doc injected something in him on accident.
The one where Barkley was all-of-the-sudden a genius and takes hold of the ship.
The one where Barkley and picard first meet & picard says his nickname even when he did not stand for it...(hehe)
