That's where most of the casualties are from. It is beyond heartbreaking. Here in Chicago we rarely hear about the dead; you gotta look at the small-town papers to hear about it. By any standard, 12 in a year from a small area is devastating. Who voted for this punk again?

6. hello
hello, I'm a DU addict. I was bummed out after the election and somehow... I don't remember how. I was slowly sucked into the exit poll thing. and soon I was here. The best site I've found. Seems to be the most active. During the day I work with the bushies and not a word is said as they blab on. And at night the excitement is there, It's scary too. I don't minimize the Constitutional implication of what's going on here. But BBV has convinced me we are on the right track. I don't care who is president. But this private, profit driven companies deep in the heart of democracy is going to go.

depressed, stunned democrat who predicted to anyone who would listen why JK was going to get more than 300 electoral votes. the next day, I just smelled the foul funk of fraud, and started digging. when I started, I didn't know much about it at all. now I am amazed at how much is out there to learn, and how much other people need to know too. I have been writing to media and politicians, etc. like crazy for the past week... also trying to convince people at my law firm to let me really investigate this stuff.

(and I am so hooked on DU that it is scary!!!)

I'm a registered Libertarian in Allegheny County, PA who voted for Kerry this year because I was nervous about Bush and his cronies tampering with the division between church and state.

I found DU after coming to the conclusion that something was wrong with the voting on Nov 2 and doing internet searches on the subject.

I don't agree with the Democrats about some things, but at this point I kind of feel like we're all in the same sinking boat so I'm trying to join forces.

I'm also a graduate student working on a Ph.D. I'm not going to say what school or what subject for privacy reasons, but let's just say I have a fair amount of education in statistics and/as it applies to the social sciences (which is what tipped me off to irregular voting patterns early).

Some of the stuff on here is kind of nuts (I know, Libertarian pot calling the Democrat kettle black), but I also want to thank you DUers for being a reliable source of useful news over the last week (unlike mainstream sources).

34. Hi
I'm new... from Oregon.

I woke up the day OF the election with a dreadful feeling. And short of a few fleeting moments that evening.. I woke up feeling worse the day after. Confused, stunned and pissed off. I found DU on accident a couple days after the election and have lurked (a lot!) since. I'm kind of addicted :)

Someone I know (a dem!) told me to 'Get over it!' and I just don't see that happening. I can't, when there are such blatant discrepancies.

Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 11:19 PM by petersgirl
Living in a solidly red state is tough. I need constant reminders that the whole country hasn't gone mad.

I'm a Minnesota native; been here in Idaho four years. My husband and I are anxious to get back to MN to help see that the neocons don't take it over.

Edited to add: I've been aware of DU for months, through several lefty friends of mine. I've occasionally lurked, but have often been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of posts.

I was suicidally despondent for the first few days after the "election," then started thinking "the exit polls were wrong? WTF??" Started Googling for proof that I was not nuts, and here you guys were. :)

Hesitated to start posting because I'm not happy with my SN. lol. Is it absurd for someone to change her name after just joining? I'm thinking of MyCatsNameIsMittens. (Also, registration seems to have been "locked down" for a few days, so maybe that's why so many newbies are now coming out of the woodwork.)

Thanks for the welcome. :)

A freeper is someone who posts over at "free republic". I don't post their url here at DU as a matter of principle so combine those 2 words, add a .com and you've got yourself a link. Take a compass, it's hard to negotiate the threads over there.

n/t = no text You may also see 'eom'= end of message. In other words, it's all in the subject line.

One more thing to know: the moderators/mods are volunteers, please extend every courtesy (and kindness) to them.

The admin are wild party boys who are often away on road-trips to casinos and strip-clubs squandering our money. We all love 'em so it's not a problem.

ps: I'm near Dolores Park, how about you? :D

edit:

78. Ah, it is all clear to me now!
Thanks! :)

Think I'll skip the firsthand freep experience for the moment...my emotions are a little too volatile right now.

Me, I'm right in the heart of Noe Valley. :hi:

72. I don't know why I signed up here...
I think I was just looking for some kindred spirits after the election.

74. Michigander here
Heard about the site from a coworker at the radio station. I've been through most of the stages of grief since Tuesday night, and have ended up ENERGIZED and ready to work for change(and insufferable, if you ask family and friends). Thanks to all of you for making me realize that I'm not alone.

I've been here since September of 2003, and I still feel like a newbie! You are definately not alone in your anger/frustration, and there are many many MANY likeminded progressives of all stripes who are still fighting the good fight, every day.

Welcome! :hi:

EDIT: changed "September 1993" to "September 2003" :dunce:

79. New!
I'm new to posting but I have been reading DU for a few years. This is where I get my news because I couldn't watch TV news or listen to radio news for the last four years due to going into a rage every time I heard Bush speak or heard most of the pundits. I have another four years of not watching or listening to the news. Glad to be here from Buffalo, NY.

80. from MI
i've been a reader all year. DU is a great resource. you guys should publish a weekly magazine that disects and puts all the 'news' through the anaytical shredder. i'm finding myself printing off the best to share with people i know who dont' have internet access. thanks!

82. There were about 500 registrations yesterday,
We are leading the way on the voter fraud stuff. I think that's attracting attention. We have been mentioned on the radio and other places.
