Remember wondering what Hitler's rise to power was like?
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 10:45 PM by PretzelWarrior
well, now you know.

Or Mousellini. Or Franco. Any of them relied on an easily manipulated and paranoid populace who ate the lines about "the external threat" and "getting behind the leader" and "dissent being comfort to the enemies".

We get at LEAST 4 more years of this complete and utter bullshit.
And I bet I'll be in a concentration camp before it's done.

I've just got to get past his storm troopers and coax him into eating more pretzels.

4. Ja ja - shwarze Käse!!
It started in one of my "heil shrub" threads from a few days ago, when someone posted it as the only German he knew.

I'm trying to get it to become a meme at DU.

13. Ooh, cool, you made use of the "go to google" meme
and the dunce meme.

:P

It'sw fascinating stuff.

Every now and again there will be a flame war at DU about people who use the word "meme". Some people here really hate it. Some people think it's a bogus theory. Personally, I like it. Detractors are just buying into the "decry anything new that happens to become trendy" meme.

14. I like meme. it sounds like some parasite...attaching to bodies
and sucking brains dry.

I think meme is a great way to talk about the mindless echo--ECHO--ECHO!! that emanates in our video wall of today

BTW. I used "VIDEO WALL" as the latest meme to describe the constant din of TV that I heard Brokaw and others use recently.

2. Yes, it's been amazing
In my one short lifetime, so much about history has been explained.

From the fall of Rome to the rise of Hitler, we are seeing it all again in some kind of bizarre 'quicktime'.

5. yes. one of the cofounders of Sun Microsystems said this age
would spiral VERY quickly to destruction partly because the pace of information, news, and action happen so much more quickly due to computers. I should find that quote. It was fascinating.

7. The rate of change
has certainly speeded up.

Hopefully that means we can cycle through this era faster as well.

If you find that quote, please forward it. I'd like to read it.

Since this article, he's done a lot of writing and speaking on the subject of technology and innovation leading to human downfall and perhaps extinction

6. Yep, except this asshat...
...took a roaring economy and tanked it, whereas Hitler took a completely failed economy and turned it around. Although the B* family does have first hand knowledge about how Hitler did stuff, just ask Prescott Bush...

9. Agree. And to all the people who complained that Iraqis deserved to
be invaded cuz they never took Saddam out and don't rail against the vote irregularities: look in the mirror, same problem, different cast.
