4. You can buy the lot for a pretty penny. Worth seeing. I think for me
it's number 2 and number 4 that are tied for first place.

I will admit to crying when they died at the end of the series.

Have not gotten as into the extra videos they did, like the Victorian Christmas one.

5. I voted for IV because of the serious anti-war message.
Our local PBS affiliate took Blackadder IV off the air during the first Gulf War, because they were afraid the portrayal of insane, out-of-touch generals living the high life while sending hordes of men to die meaninglessly might offend someone. Fucking cowards.

Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 11:42 PM by Zing Zing Zingbah
It's way funnier than Mr. Bean.
My favorite episodes of Blackadder (from most to least favorite):
1. Blackadder II
2. Blackadder IV
3. Blackadder III
4. Blackadder I

Basically, I liked them all expect for the first one.
I love the Queenie character in the second installment. Baldrick is one of my favorites for all episodes.

if so, i correct myself.

which is the one where "Wooster" (god, i only remember him from eeves and Wooster) gets forensics lessons and looks like a jackass reading a decree? he stands legs spread and roars before reading, gawd i was rolling with laughter.

also loved that hero dude from WWI, "treat your plane like your woman, take her to heaven and back 5 times a day! woohoo!" such a hilarious stereotype!

19. That would be series 3
Hugh Laurie (now House MD on Fox :) ) plays the prince recieving speaking lessons from the to actors.

The hero dude is Lord Flasheart, played by Rik Mayall of the Young Ones fame.

"Mind if I use your phone? If word gets out that I'm missing, five hundred girls will kill themselves. I wouldn't want them on my conscience, not when they ought to be on my face!"

"Well, all right, you fellows. Let's sit us down and yarn about how amazingly attractive I am."

18. I have to go with Series 1
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 12:41 AM by Forkboy
The last episode,The Black Seal, is the single funniest thing I've ever seen.He is plenty sarcastic in the series....really :)

BA to Percy on why BA is dismissing him;

"....far from being a fit consort for a Prince of the Realm, you would bore the leggings off a village idiot. You ride a horse rather less well than another horse would, your brain would make a grain of
sand look large and ungainly in comparison, and the part of you that can't be mentioned,I am reliably informed by women around the court, wouldn't be worth mentioning even if it could be."

----------
But first a motto for our enterprise. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall be slaughtered"

"Wait you've forgotten the plan."

" thought that was the plan."

---------

"Oh no, you're not mad are you ?"

Mad Gerald (played by Rik Mayall): Yes I'm very mad thank you. Maaad. Thats a word I know. I say that every day. I say, "Good morning Mad Gerald, how are you today ?", and then I say, "I'm completely mad today thank you", and then I say, "Oh so there's not much change there then is there Gerald?", and I say, "No, well you'd be mad to expect any wouldn't you?", then I say, "But I am mad. I'm
Mad Gerald....".
-------

I love all the series. The episode is series 2 with Sir Walter "Bloody" Raleigh, where Blackadder and crew hire the legless Captain (Tom Baker of Dr Who fame)kills me ("But you're legless" "Rubbish,I haven't touched a drop all day!").The episode is Series 3 with Robbie Coltrane and his dictionary also stands out (Sausage...SAUSAGE!!! Blast yer eyes...").

The only shows that measure up to Blackadder are Red Dwarf,Fry and Laurie and The Young Ones.I watch them all very often (Blackadder 2 is in my vcr as we speak!) The DVD comes complete with all 4 series and a fifth "series" (really just one episode) that's pretty damn funny. And the Blackadder Christmas Special is great too.Scrooge in reverse...he goes from being too nice to being the Blackadder we all know and love :)

23. The Spanish Infanta!
I can't remember the name of the episode though.

Yeah- I think Blackadder I edges out the others thanks to Brian Blessed and perfect Prince Harry. I wish he'd come back in the other episodes.

Other highlights: "the Black Russian" and "Quick, the nunnery's on fire!"

I like IV for it's anti-war message. The last episode kicks it up considerable.

25. The Black Adder I, Episode 4 - "The Queen of Spain's Beard"
Brian Blessed is great and there's so much to like in the other series. Rick Mayall as the Brit Ace Lord Flasheart, Adrian Edmondson as Baron von Richtoven, Stephen Fry as Gen. Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett... and Baldrick!

I haven't seen the newer episodes after "Black Adder Goes Forth" (IV)

They did a modern Christmas special one with a time machine but you just got the sense that they were all over the hill or mailing in their performances.

So I'm not sure I want to see another series.

"Oh Sir Walter, really.........."

etc. etc. etc.

Having said that, any episode from any series which contains Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie gets my vote.....Very much like any woman who wants to chain herself to my railings and suffer a jet movement.

but unless your comments are amusingly ironic, I have to conclude that you are a horse's arse.

What with Blackadder being one of the most, intelligent, critically acclaimed and popular British comedy shows of all time, and Johnny English being roundly panned by critics and audiences alike for its unsubtle, formulaic gags.

But then, I suspect you're being amusingly ironic.

Blackadder I: "The Witchslayer Pursuviant" with the hokey witchcraft trial

Blackadder II: "BEER" nearly killed me. The false boobies, Queenie in the closet..the horror! (The turnip that looks like a thingie)

Blackadder III: "The Scottish Play"

Blackadder IV ..not sure, but probably the pigeons.
