"Pansy" Wine Launched For Australian Gays
<snip>

A NEW Zealand wine company will launch a new wine labelled Pansy targeted at Australia's gay community.

Kim Crawford Wines says the Sydney gay community drinks around $NZ4.5 million ($4.05m) worth of wine a month.

"Pansy is about friendship, kindness and generosity of the human spirit," company founder Erica Crawford said of her product.

Pansy was originally devised as a way of thanking gay friends in the hospitality industry, Crawford said.

"It's just been a bit of fun. It's actually a thank you to them, we have had great support from the gay community."

1. In the early 80's, someone once gave me a piece of candy from Australia
Shaped like a band-aid, the wrapper portraying two children skipping down a lane.

It was called Queer-aid.

I still have the damn thing somewheres.

2. Hmmmm
I don't know. I would guess some gay people would take offense at the name. I know that (my cat) Lily's sister's name was Pansy but got adopted by a gay man and he changed her name.

We had a dog named Pansy when I was little, but the term wasn't really used the same way it is today.

4. My roommate in college started using the term ad naseum (he was gay,
and so am I). Everyone--gay and straight, got sick of the term quite quickly. It has sort of a negative undertone, but that might not be the case down under, and it sounds like the company surely doesn't mean it that way.
