Cheap source for steel wheels?
The local tire places want $75 each for 15" steel rims (it's snow tire time for the new car).

This seems steep to me - Tirerack.com has 'em for $38 each, and shipping them from Jersey to Boston suburbia is cheaper than a local sale. That seems wrong. Anyway, is there a good cheap source for steel rims? There's a local junkyard I could try but I don't want to buy an out-of-round rim and am not sure how to check for that.

Why the concern about a "out of round" rim? They're SNOW TYRES...You're not planning on dashing through the snow at 85 MPH with them, are you? I used to run snow tyres. Rough-riding, noisy, vibrating snow tyres. After the first season, I didn't even waste the money having the wheels balanced when I changed back to them.

Just make sure thay don't come off the smashed end of the car...

2. Look for a shop that does custom wheels,
they might give you a set of take-offs for almost nothing.
If it was a Harley, I'd tell you to see Scotty at American Motorcycles in Framingham. Try calling him about the car wheels anyway.
