Damn deceptive marketing
I needed to get some paper plates and saw some called Natures Own Green Label so I grabbed them and threw them in the basket thinking they were relatively benign. Maybe 30% post consumer waste or something but after getting home I noticed that it said "made from 100% paper a renewable resource". They weren't made from any previously used product or even post manufacturing waste it was all a smoke screen. Bastards.

So I learned to always read the small print today.

2. It's a green product
made from fresh green trees

Does anyone remember the Simpsons episode where Lisa goes to the newspaper, and the guide tells her there is a percentage of recycled paper in the newspaper? Lisa asks what percent, and the guide says "zero" and then defensively "zero is a percent!"

3. Unfortunately, the word "green" is unregulated and meaningless...
I write for the cleaning industry, and "green cleaning" is the same way. Some gov't entities have specifications for "environmentally preferrable" products (usually involving a certain percentage of recycled content, bans on certain additives/volatile organic compounds, that sort of thing), but all you really need to be "green" is a picture of the earth or children picking flowers on the label.
