{shrug} I watch a movie. That is it. I must be really strange,
but I've never cared at all how great or how poor an actor is, to me they're just doing a job. Same thing with who they are dating, or their sexual preference, I've just never really cared at all.

(well, it only seemed fair, since I said it in the Tom Hanks thread)

Who cares if he's the same character in every movie. So's Sean Connery, and he's a dog. If Sean and the rest like that can be in too many movies, so can this hottie. IMO, anyway. :)

Did you know he gave away 90% of his salary from the filming of the 3rd. Matrix movie to the workers behind the scenes on the film? He made a bunch of them millionaires. That's true.

He might be a big ole girl but that was damn generous.

And he has given hundreds of thousand of dollars to cancer research.

In retrospect I think that's kinda nice. *shrug*

...gave me the creeps. Not because it was an especially good movie but because Keanus character was so off the norm for him. The character he played scared me something awful.

Same with the Home Alone kid in The Good Son.

Note to casting directors : Cast good guys in bad guy roles if you really want to scare the bejesus out of me.

so, if a 'good actor' is one who inspires you to rent a movie, then he is a good actor. But by most other definitions of good actor, i'm afraid not.

39. Sometimes his brand of "Hi, I'm a brick...acting like a brick" is good.
It wasn't distracting in Speed, for example.

He was HOT in that movie, all buffed up (and typically I dislike the buffed up look).

And I really liked A Walk in the Clouds.
And he was wonderful in Something's Gotta Give. I liked him very much in that. Was it his acting that I liked? No, it was his HIM that I liked. Not the looks. I dunno, some intangible quality.

Something's Gotta Give, incidentally, made me feel that way about Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton too. I never thought Keaton was worth a shit in the acting department until that film, and her nomination was well deserved. That scene where she says "It was only a week..." was very, very good.

The only possible exception was his work in "My Own Private Idaho," but it's entirely possible that River Phoenix was carrying him in that case.
