3. OMG! Count me in!
He's the Eric Clapton of the movie world. Hell, he's even worse than Clapton.

He's utter and pathetic useless acting shit.

I have no idea why he's so popular. No, wait - I do. Because America thinks that if you look good, you must be a good actor.

But he isn't. He's pure unadulterated shit.

In the list of celebrities who have deserved none of their fame, he sits, smugly and self-lovingly, at the very top.

4. Well, if you love seeing Tom Cruise playing Tom Cruise...
film after film after film...

Than, he's the actor of our generation.

5. I have to agree here...
he's good, but pretty much the same in every movie.

He is a very nice fellow though. My nephew's fraternity was having a banquet at the Peabody in Memphis and Cruise showed up for a drink during filming of "The Firm". They talked with him some and when they left they found out he paid their bill in full. There was about 30 of them there.

My brother also ate lunch with him on a park bench in Confederate Park in Memphis.

I liked 'Magnolia', but I thought he was one of the worst things in it.

Have you seen 'The Last Samurai'? Frickin' hilarious - like 'Braveheart' with Japanese people. I wouldn't be surprised if it prompted a wave of demands in the US for reperations over 'what we did to the samurai'.

And his fake 1000 watt smile and hearty laugh creep me out.

15. You hit the nail on the head!
That "smile" is so practiced! And the laugh is utterly insulting.

Sadly, I never saw Kubrick's last film because he was in it. I simply can't stand to watch him trying to emote - he's no less tedious than William Shatner. And he's the only actor who uses hand-wringing as an acting device. Truly pathetic.

13. He's improved a lot
He used to be absolutely terrible, to the point where I could not watch any movie with him in it. But I was impressed with him in "Magnolia". In "Minority Report" he did a particularly good job understating himself, which is really what he needs to do. (He also had great directors in those movies, and that helps a lot.)

So I'm going to cut ol' Tom a little slack on this one. Plus I just have a feeling that he surfs this forum. Just a feeling.

16. Have you seen the movie where he is this selfconsumed a-hole who ...
falls in love, they break up, he "finds" himself and decides to become a better person and in doing so gets back together with his love and everyone is rewarded for the change in his character (sort of a karma thing). Have you seen that one? I can't remember the name of it.
