Know any Fundies that like the Nutcracker?
Point out to them that Tchaikovsky was gay -- maybe their Christmas season can be made a little worse

Don't be mean and confront these nuts on their hypocrisy. As liberals
we may be getting constantly screwed, but hey--we're Nice! :eyes:

11. Yes, tell the truth always, everywhere...
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 12:38 PM by Jade Fox
I was being sarcastic in post #8, which may have not been obvious.
My sarcasm was directed at your critic.

There is a vein of liberal/left thinking that has us always being the nice
guys/losers. I'm sick to death of that, and I think it is rooted in the
preference of some to feel morally superior to the Right while staying
safely powerless.

10. It depends on what yoru goals are
If they are to punish your neighbors for voting the wrong way or having the wrong opinions, this is a good strategy. If they are to convince them to change their opinion or to vote for someone who's not an idiot, this is the wrong strategy.

What are you goals?

20. I understood you disagreed with me
Just so you know.

I stand by what I said--what are the tactical benefits of going up to your neighbors and trying to ruin their Christmas (or make it worse anyway)?

What does that get us?

Other than making us feel childishly happy at seeing them get down in the dumps when we piss on them.

would be ruined by their bigotry -- I'm not suggesting we go tell young children that Santa doesn't exist, or something

Boy that sure sounds impressive.

But there are ways to say the truth and occasions to say it.

If a "Fundie" family down the street had a legitimately ugly daughter would you go up, knock on the door, and tell them their daughter was ugly?

14. No, it's a full-length ballet, often performed at Christmas,
because it requires a large cast of children, so everyone comes to see their kids perform and their neighbors' kids perform, and it's how ballet companies make most of their money.

The "tinkly tune" you're referring to is probably "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy," but if you ever saw the full-length ballet, you'd probably recognize a lot of the tunes.

I know, you're probably thinking, "Real men don't watch ballet." That attitude mystifies me, because most of ballet is young women in skimpy, often skintight costumes.

24. Sheesh, yourself.
I'm not saying that either. What I am saying is that your analysis of the "fundie's" thought processes is totally erroneous. Living in a very "red" state as I do, I know a lot of what you would call "fundie's". And most of them are NOT ignorant bigots, even if I respectfully disagree with many, if not most, of their positions on the issues.

Many of them, in fact, are as articulate about why they think the way they do as we are. And whether we agree (for the record, I don't) with their positions on issues such as gay marriage, or not, they are not based on ignorant hate, as so many here seem to believe, but sincere disagreements about principle.

So mock them all you want, but if you do not try to understand them, they will continue to win elections. And we will keep wailing about "stolen elections". Just seizing upon the words "moral values" and trying to define what they mean as our values is not going to fool these people. They know what they believe regardless of what it is called.

So I think we should just put our positions out there, straight up, without trying to hedge and obfuscate as we so often do, and take our lumps electorally if we have to. We're doing it already. Then we have a baseline and we know what we have to accomplish to win.

Anyway, that's what I think. Flame away.

27. anyone who hates people for being who they are
is an ignorant bigot.

and while I acknowledge that the ability of people to engage in double-think is phenomenal, exposing people to their own hypocrisy is always worth doing, in my opinion

I totally agree with your last statement, by the way. Totally.:D
