Question for anyone who's been to Spain.
I studied abroad in Madrid in 2002 and fell in love...

...with the Doner Kebab. Once I discovered them, I had to have one damn near every day. I've been to a couple turkish restaurants, and they don't even come close to measuring up to the ones in Spain. If you know what I'm talking about, have you found any as good in the U.S.? (BTW, I tried 'em in France and Belgium, too - a little different, but good. Still, not as good as in Spain).

3. I've been there, but
didn't try that. At least if I did, I didn't know what it was called. I fell in love with Tortas! Yum. haven't found anything like it here, even at a spanish tapas bar.

5. I don't know about Spain's döner...
...for me the major difference between döners is the type of bread. Here, they use bread that tastes like hamburger buns but in Germany I remember eating them with Lebanese flat bread. I tried Syrian kebabs while in Syria and they're pretty good. In fact it's just barbecued spicy lamb on a stick.

7. It was "invented" in Berlin
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 02:57 PM by Kellanved
Still, with the possible exception of Turkey, Germany in general and especially Berlin is the best place to get them. Döner is actually the German Fastfood #1, outselling burgers and currywurst by far.

15. its about 50 degrees here
I'm freezing, but of course have the window open to let the cold air come in. Now I know 50 degrees isn't really cold, but its the coldest its been in seven or eight months.

12. sacrilege
Self-respecting stands use a long, flat knife, not that strange electric shaver.

For the knives, there are basically two systems:
a)

and b) a long flat blade:

The general rule of thumb is: stay away from stands using type a)

:hi:
