Alexander the Great - the film and his sex life
I'm reading Entertainment Weekly (a freeby) and here's the quote on the script that Stone wrote:

"What he ended up with was a 142-page behemoth showcasing two sprawling battle scenes, a re-creation of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, a cast of thousands, and an honest, fairly explicit treatment of Alexander's famous bisexuality".

So, he's not portrayed as gay, but bisexual. And, if given the choice, I'd rather have revisionist bisexual than revisionist straight.

And, don't forget, 'Revisionist' is Oliver Stone's middle name.

If someone wants to track down an online link via Entertainment Weekly, have at it. Here's a start:

3. There was mention of a group Alexander encountered
who was all homosexual -- they fought and slept together, and was quite a fierce and functional group.

4. Your right
One of my Western Civilization books talks about them as bisexuals and my other book has a group being gay.

They were gay but it's history and ;) god forbid that anyone would find out.

5. That's the tragedy.
"God forbid that anyone would find out".

In the article there's a good deal of print about editing the film and cutting any homosexual content BECAUSE of anti-gay voting issues. Some was cut, but Stone was adamant about leaving some in. Curiously, Farrell seemed (in the interview) to be the most upset about it - and he shot the gay sex scenes. Apparently, he's not at all disturbed about what it might do to his career.

If you keep up with fundamentalist dogma, all gays were wiped out by the flood, and have only recently reappeared. I kid you not. I mentioned the sexuality of King James, of the King James bible, to a whack job aunt of mine and she went insane, claiming that it was all gay agenda related propaganda. Fortunately, she avoids me now - and I couldn't be happier. I've always hated her and if I had known years ago that it was that simple to get her out of my life...

7. you're thinking of the Sacred Band of Thebes
Two Hundred men, one hundred pair bonds. They were the badest of the bad warriors. Cost Alexander a lot of his crack troops to beat them, had to kill them all, they wouldn't surrender.

6. Why would you expect accuracy from Hollywood?
They've never been known for making historically correct films and I doubt they'll be starting soon. They're trying to make money, not inform. It's entertainment. That's all.
