How does one take control over a laptop thumb-mouse and cursor?
I've got a 1997 Quantex laptop that has a thumb-mouse (or whatever it's called). Whenever I type, the cursor somehow refuses to stay fixed on the line I'm working on; it keeps wanting to "follow" the mouse pointer after a few seconds, and I end up typing over words I had already typed.

:argh:

1. Sometimes that eraser thing on the post
gets cocked, try removing and reinserting the eraser.

If that doesn't stop the wandering, try opening control panel and mouse control, I seem to remember a reset button there that will recenter the post.

that fixes my problem with touchpads.

On edit Oh, I see it's a pointing stick and you probably don't have a USB. Did you try canned air (take off the boot and see if you can clean the air underneath

:-)

3. No, I do have USB
So I can try out the optical mini-mouse thing. This Quantex I have seems like it was one of the first of the "modern" notebook-types, with the touchpad, USB, and black casing -- except that it's only Pentium I whereas today's notebooks are like 2+ GHz and have 100 gig harddrives and DVD burners.

4. I got one of those........but, I'm so Old, my 1st laptop
was a Dell 325N (I still have it) 25MHz/386 processor with a 40Meg HD.

Anyhoo, I think the optical mouse is the way to go.....I'm through with buttons/touchpads.
