What brought you to democraticunderground.com?
This thread may die at 10 or go to 100.

One of my co-workers listens to Rush and Hannity throughout the day. Unfortunately, I can hear it in my office. I was looking online for Rush sucks webpages and I followed a link to an old Top 10 Conservative Idiots page. I think I read each and every one of them. That's some of the FUNNIEST stuff around and you newbies should immediately read the archives! Get your learn on.

I started posing rather timidly because I am rather caustic and sarcastic. I've given all of my spare gmail accounts to DU'ers, donated money to the site and spend a lot of time here. I'm glad I found this place and hope to contribute more (hopefully) funny posts on occasion.

peace, love and empathy,
benito

That didn't remind me of a leftist version of Free Republic. Vetwife suggested DU.

The rest is history. ^_^

17. Same here
Lurked for several months. Actually, for the first few months, I didn't even know there was a forum, I just read all the stuff on the front page. Then I finally decided to click on "Discussion Groups" and have been hooked ever since.

25. I did the same thing for awhile....
It made my (otherwise dismal) day seeing that banner. I was shouting "yeah!" as I jumped to the computer to look for the site.

Thanks admins!:hi:

5. Wow, I honestly don't remember.
I think I found it while doing a search trying to debunk some right-wing crap. At the time, new registrations had been turned off, so I had to wait a few weeks until I could sign up. For a little while I was a lurker, but I finally decided to start posting.

So here I am. :)

9. The primaries!
Now the Top Ten is among my must-reads (I like to torture my Republican father with emailed excerpts) and, I scan the forums several times a day for news. It's the fastest way to get a handle on what's going on and I've been utterly dependent on it for this whole voting mess.

12. It was just before Fallujah started to become big news.
Even though I didn't vote for him, I was behing GW thinking he was great but I was starting to see a lot of inconsistencies coming out of my former favorite, (Yes, I know and I'm sorry now) Fox News. Well, I started to search the net to verify or nullify news stories I was hearing and eventually I found Yahoo Groups. I ended up finding out what a fake Fox was and I joined about 50 groups. One day someone posted something about DU and I followed a link here. I've never turned back and never will...

on bush-lies.blogspot.com, which is a great site run by a guy out of Upper Arlington, Ohio. He just lists all of the articles that come out everyday that show what a moron Bush is and then usually has a pretty funny ed note. Worth reading. I love it here!

20. I found the top ten on...
http://www.smudgereport.com. Read it faithfully every week. Finally a lightbulb went off, and I clicked on the 'DU home' link. Registered, and the rest, as they say, was history.

BTW: If you've never been to Smudgereport (the anti-drudge) I recommend it. TONS of links on that page.

26. Surfing of liberal web sites brought me here,
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 10:13 PM by Lone_Wolf_Moderate
way back in 2001. The Conservative Idiots List had me hooked. I was relatively new to discussion boards. During the Impeachment days, I hung out at Impeachment.com, and debated right-wingers a lot. I had never seen anything of DU's magnitude before, and I was impressed.

27. Mike Malloy
Back in the IEAmericaradio days I checked out the site. After they pulled the plug on the network, I spent a lot of time here to feed my Jones for rational voices. I've been way too addicted since then to move away from the computer. It sucks being obsessive/compulsive, but who needs a life when you have DU?

32. "The Supremos"! Lordy, I loved them...
made me laugh til I almost burst; I was a lawyer at the time at a big ole hoity toity DC law firm that was (is) soooooo pro Bush. All the associates in my department, except the ass-kissers, were totally liberal and the guy in the office next to mine raced into my office when I started to cackle. By the end of the hour about 10 other associate attys were in my office and we were all red-faced and wheezing we were laughing so hard. A lawyer friend of mine had sent me the link, and from then on I was hooked on DU. Sad The Supremos are gone, though.

33. Read How Much The Neo-Cons Hated The Site
I'm an officer in the Rainbow Alliance for LGBTQA Rights at my university, and I was doing some research about common misconceptions regarding why the religious right just hates the idea of homosexual marriage, ugh...

So I figured I'd start looking on various right-wing websites and I stumbled across a rant (I think it was on WorldNetDaily but I'm not sure) against this site and how horrible everyone on it was.

Naturally, being the absolutely horrible pagan, equality loving, mass transit using, women's rights supporting, pro-choice, environmentalist, Amtrak riding, Air America listening, artist that they seem to attack so often on their site I figured I'd check it out...

...go figure

May Peace Travel With You
