Turning 30.
I try to tell myself it's just a number, but I got my first birthday card and when I saw said number my face went numb.

Thoughts? Insights? Reflections? Help?

1. I vaguely remember being 30, sometime a millenium or so ago
Didn't mean much to me, actually. But then, I'm generally pretty wierd.

16. I cried like a baby the day I turned 30.
My hubby had no interest in 'having a baby' at the time. I hated my job.. it was all useless babbling.

Things just got better and better and better. I've a master's and a doctorate since then.

Now...I'm 45...and never been happier. And guess what - I got my baby at 40 (we 'dopted). The perfect daughter - she's the most intelligent, beautiful, talented angel on the face of the earth (I'm a bit biased - she's a wee bit pampered). You're so glad to just be alive in your 40's - you appreciate life so much more.

4. No pity... 40 was awhile ago....
but remember that 'old' people are always at least 15 years older than you are!!! It doesn't work so well past 75... but, oh well!

I loved it. I love every year a little more. 35 is nice too. Quite a view of the past from here.

8. Er, it really IS just a number

I mean, if you wanna go all abtract and weird about it, it's a squiggly line with two humps and a sideways-smooshed circle.

Try this, instead: XXX

;-)

9. I got over it pretty quickly.
But there's that uncomfortable period where you don't trust yourself.

Look at the bright side: at least you don't live in a large dome-like future city.

12. OMG the thirties ROCK
seriously. I woke up that day and felt like a REAL adult. In my 30s, I have started finally being taken seriously by the world at large.

I am mature enough to not care as much what other people think, but still young enough to tear it up.

I don't feel like I have as much to "prove" anymore.

It's FANTASTIC!!!! I love it. The self-confidence that goes with getting older is priceless.

I will be 34 in a couple of weeks!

Sheesh! Get over it!
Life begins at 50! (or so I'm told).

look at it this way:
Some days never seem to end, but the years, they fly by....

15. The best years of your life my dear.
Seriously, 30 did not bother me. 35 was a little strange. 40 was OK and 45 too but I was worried about 50, no problem with 50. Almost 51 now and you know what? It is grand. I did not look you up before this post so I do not know for certain but if you are female I say never fear. Freedom comes with age. It really does.

17. Yes, that's what I've learned...
you feel a bit more free and confident with each passing year. You know yourself better. You've quit fighting life ... and just enjoy it. Gets better and better.

20. are you kidding?
the twenties are just puberty for adults. seriously, so much insecurity, uncertainty, and pain. I would never go back. I am looking forward to my thirties. my life is starting to come together and I feel like I have a place in the world.

Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 12:12 AM by LoZoccolo
...I spent my twenties being really busy among other things, and still want to do all that stuff people normally do in their twenties, am still attracted mostly to women in their early 20s, stuff like that. I wonder if I can pull all that off.

21. OMG ! Your life is over ..LOL
Yeah,it happened to me just a couple of years ago. No big deal. All that has really happened is that the Earth went round the Sun some 30 times while you are around. So ?? The Earth has done that hundreds of millions of times before you came, and if Bush doesn't do something drastic, it will do so many hundreds of millions of times more. Whats 30 ?

But beware, time moves at warp speed once you're over 30. Pretty scary. My advice: Make peace with it.

but I don't know...it might be kind of cool to have that OH MY GOD I'M 30 moment, just to see what it feels like. anyway, i'm fine with turning thirty and leaving my twenties (which sucked for the most part) behind.

30 is a milestone but I recall it fondly. 40, on the other hand, is a different story.
