Ive made up my mind
I am gonna try to stay here in the lounge and those new groups because GD etc is just annoying. Who's with me, and kudos to those of you who have been lounge exiles since forever.

1. I pretty much only browse the GD threads
anything I have to say has generally been said long before I stumble across a particular thread.

4. you know
I do most of my actual political debate at school now, and needless to say we gotta think in shades of gray more, part of our problem is thinking its either their way or our way, theres always different ways.

2. I agree kleeb...
I enjoy the chill nature of the lounge and all of it's inhabitants. Every now and then when I feel like pulling my hair out, I'll go over to GD but I quite like it over here!

5. the lounge is a place where anyone can get along
The lounge is the best, I am just so sick of GD sometimes because people love to be cynics for the sake of being cynics.

7. I'm a GD thread immigrant
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 01:41 AM by RummyTheDummy
I used to hang there almost exclusively. Occasionally I'd go over to LBN and I spent a lot of time in GD:Election 2004.

Frankly, the regulars there are so uptight it makes me tired. I re-discovered the lounge and am now spending 90 percent of my time on DU here. It's quirky, funny, relaxing and generally laid back. In other words, its the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of GD.

19. LOL
Im a huge Culpepper and Moss fan. I just wish they'd get a defense worthy of their offense. Hopefully some of the younger guys they have will develop. If that happens, the rest of the league better watch out.

:scared:

I also love Onterio Smith. It killed me when the Pats, in dire need of an RB that year, passed on him over and over again.

22. Well, the young talent will have to develop, because unlike...
...your owner, mine won't spend a dime on a quality free agent. Hey, they are what they are. They are the new version of the 80's San Diego Chargers. If we can outscore the opponent, we win! If not, we lose!

24. Pretty good comparison on the Chargers
I think Kevin Williams will be a stud. And didn't they take EJ Henderson from Maryland? I like Corey Chavous. But yeah, offense is the name of the game up there. You work with what ya got, and they've got a shit load of talent on offense. They have so much talent Michael Bennett is an afterthought for Pete's sake! An after thought!

25. Yep, they got Henderson...
and Chavous is a smart veteren. Williams will be/is good, and they got Udeze in the draft from USC, but they are masking a bad shoulder injury on him. Keep an eye on a good young LB they have named Raonall Smith. He's injured now, but when he has been in, he's been a terror. He's a playmaker, kind of like a young Willie McGinnest. Which is high praise, since I think McGinnest is probably the most underrated defensive player of the past few years.

11. I went over there today
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 01:53 AM by RummyTheDummy
To see if someone was defending Scott Peterson...sure enough.

I spent election night on GD:2004. I think it may have scarred me for life. When things starting going downhill, it became wall to wall panic over there. It started with one thread entitled "I don;t like the way this is going" and grew to about 20 in 10 minutes.

It's steadily gone downhill since Nov. 3. All they talk about is the vote total in Cuyogha, Ohio County (spell?) and "what direction should we take the party" with all the obligatory back biting and general bitchyness.

Anyway, that's my rant. Congrats on your victory, Mr. President.

14. I personally believe the party should move against either of the two
extremes I see, I dont believe in an outright move to the far left because I realize that we can be competive in some places, but I also think moving to the center is complete crap too especially on economic issues.

17. I tend to agree
I would settle for just slightly left of center. I don't know what the answer is. Maybe that's what whips me down about GD. There are people on GD who think Kucinich could win. I love the guy, but he's a recipe for a 50 state skull fucking (plus Guam).

I just think we need to step back, take a deep breath, and chill for awhile and figure this shit out. I don't see the need to rush to one extreme or the other. Let the Pugs overplay their hand. They always do.

18. Thank god someone else agrees with my 2.5 way
I am not a total fan of the way Clinton proposed the so called third way but I totally disgree with who think a quick move to the left solves everything. I believe it was Tip O'Neill who said all politics is local, now maybe I misintepreted that quote but I take it to mean that we have to understand people's interest, as much as I would like to decriminalize pot, I if I ran in the bible belt wouldn't run as a supporter but I would more so of a supporter to take preventive measures against kids getting the drugs, like better education, better life styles, etc.

21. The O'Neil quote
Is perhaps the single most profound comment I've ever heard about politics. It pretty much covers all the bases. Unfortunately I think that's what a lot of people don't get when they think someone like Dean (who I also like a lot) or DK could be even remotely competitive in places we should probably be a little more competitive than we are. I dont think we should pander to the south, but I think we should be better in rural areas all over the country. How you do that, I dunno.

23. I think Dean and DK make excellent spokesmen for the party
I agree, we shouldn't pander to the south but more so reach out to people through out. There is definely a lot of politicans out there who are somewhere in the mold between an ultra compromised centrist like Evan Bayh and someone like DK, and those people I think are often fine public servants.

26. We're going to have to face a Bayh dilemma as Dems
I think he will run, and I think of all the candidates talked about, I think he probably has the best chance of winning. But 1-I'm not sure he could get the nomination 2-I'm not sure I want to win that bad.

Bayh's personality is closer to your average, run of the mill, middle school algebra teacher. Nothing against algebra teachers, but it's not exactly a winning combo.

29. Also, people shouldn't discount some of the Southern politicians..
...and in fact a few could be a bonus, since a few of them are actually progressives, and could slide under the radar screen, thus getting some moderate voters, and even some conservative voters who "think" that they are moderate Southerners. But actually some are very progressive in the old Southern Progressive/New Dealer mold.

Governor Warner here in Virginia is quite populist, hes not a total progressive but he is a lot better than what many of the people who want a full out lefty think, if trying to get all the kids here a better education is moderate and bushlite, so sue me, he's also given us a surplus.
