I just finished splitting wood -- ask me anything

our neighbor and wood guy dropped off a few chunks of wood last week -- it was FREE -- and we never look at free wood in the knot hole

well, all split up it's about 1/4 of a cord...

as soon as my arms stop tingling -- I have to go make spagetti sauce

What's the cost of a cord of wood these days where you are, delivered and stacked?

We're in the horse country of Virginia - Loudoun Country - and it's $350 a cord, more or less. But it's incredible wood, seasoned and perfectly cut.

5. we get it from a neighbor - it's DEMOCRATIC Wood!

73 year old guy -- comes over with his truck loaded -- about 3/4 of a cord -- charges us $60 a load. He still has a Gore-Lieberman bumpersticker on the truck, and right next to it is a Kerry-Edwards one

we have to unload and stack it, some are pretty big pieces so we have to split those and we commiserate about the state of the country and how bush* is f**king things up

we've got about 4 cords out in the back yard now, and will be getting another couple of loads during the week -- hopefully it will last the winter. been cold up here in NE-PA and we've had the wood stove going at nights since October

NE PA? I grew up in Schuylkill County. I know how cold it gets there.

Your neighbor sounds like a dream. It's nice you know how lucky you are. Tell him a displaced coalcracker girl sends him a big Yellow Dog Democrat hug and kiss.

The first syndicated newspaper article I ever wrote was for Newsday, and it was about spaghetti sauce. People still write to me about that recipe. My grandmother's.

Ah, you're filling me with nostalgia this a.m. Thanks.

3. Wow! Now that's HARD WORK!

I had a wood stove when I was in college and I lived in the country. What's the saying? Wood warms you three times: when you cut it, when you split it and when you stack it. I hope that the grain was straight and clean. Those gnarled grains and knot holes are hell on the arms and back when splitting. I suggest a very warm epsom salt bath soak.

9. If I had a way to get all the wood that is scattered around Florida up

north, I could retire. Plus the health to move it too. We had downed trees everywhere here. People were paying fortunes to have it removed.
