Attn all profs, teachers, ta's et al....
How much does it piss you off when a student e-mails you about a project that's due that day and tells you it's going to be late?

1. Depends on the reason it is late.

2. That's to be expected--
What burns me is college students e-mailing me (a Prof) with this

"Dear Mr. X:

Can you help with this issue (find an article, recognize what a book looks like) I'm in the library now--please respond ASAP--I'm waiting for your reply Gee, this homework is hard"

I get one or two of those a term.

Gee, any guesses on how I respond?

4. Or a simple click of a button
DELETE....

I tend to get *quite* official and formal in my response-- I help them, but in the end, if they read between the lines, they realize that they've just blundered in a major way. :)

5. Not that much
Deadlines aren't that important to me, really. I prefer my students do work they are proud of instead.

6. I don't accept late work.
I take pains to write a calendar that's fair, built with plenty of time between assignments and an eye to holidays, breaks, and weekends.

Since I teach writing, I not only allow re-writes, but encourage them. The only way a students gets to re-write is to turn in the paper on time.

If we do some piece of work in class, anyone who is absent misses any points given for that assignment.

I rarely have to make exceptions for the "no late work" rule. If the Dean sends a note regarding a death in the family, the student and I work out all the assignments.

Oh, and I do not accept work on disc, over the internet, or without all sources copied and attached.

Yep.... the b word.
