"A Scanner Darkly"
Oh my god, they are making it into an animated film starring Keanu Reeves!!! Why!?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405296/

But Woody Harrelson in a drug movie? Is that typecasting?

1. Nothing is sacred.
It's too bad Dick didn't live long enough to at least ride the gravy train.

Keanu Reeves is just the final insult. Somewhere, Dick is laughing at the completeness of the screwing.

3. I am still amazed
That Keanu Reeves is even working! His only acting skills are different tones of his voice when he says "Woah".

But why does it have to be animated!!??

2. Oh, no, did you see this...?
"Trivia: Charlie Kaufman wrote a screenplay adaptation of the novel. When the project changed hands, Kaufman's script was no longer involved."

I wish I could get my hands on a copy of that Kaufman screenplay. Hollywood has a long history of making bad adaptations of good P.K. Dick stories, and here they had their chance to get it right.

And they threw it away! Why? Why? Why?

5. It's one of my old time favorite novels
I cannot see it being made into a movie- on the other hand, so much of his work HAS successfully been transformed. Blade Runner comes to mind, and I know there are others. I'll hold off any judgement for now.

If it's to be animated, perhaps it will be in the style of Animatrix, which is incredible. One can hope!

6. If I'd known it was harmless
I'd have killed it myself.

7. if it makes you feel better....
....richard linklater is directing it.

he's one of a handful of directors that i believe hangs on rather meticulously to his integrity. it doesn't guarantee that it will be a good movie, but i doubt he'll dumb it down and focus-group it into unpalatable swill.

if it's a failure, i'm sure it will be a noble failure.
