Your favorite whining quitter is BACK
Okay, now I'm 35-years-old + 1 day.
I have not had a cigarette in 34 hours.

Hubby has been very good, going outside to his truck to smoke.

For some reason today is harder than yesterday. I know I'll be feeling better soon (not that I was sick, I just assume I'm going to feel better in some way). I know quitting at this age makes it very likely that I'll escape the worst consequences of having smoked. But every hour or so I think, "Damn ... one little ciggie. Just one more little, tasty ciggie ..." Ugh.

I would post a long string of curses, but it won't make me feel any better :)

1. Woo Hoo
Looking good there Mizmoon. You can do this. Just take one day at a time. For 1 cig is too many as then 10,000 cigs would not be enough.

Stay Tuff, Don't Puff

2. Hang on, it'll get better
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 10:00 AM by MsAnthropy
When I quit I did a pro and con list

Pro
I like it

Con
Cancer
Yellow teeth
Aged face
Expensive
Smelly
Standing outside in any weather
Not socially acceptable anymore
Burn holes in clothes

and on and on. Just hang on till brain function returns and the logic of this starts to work (I had a hard time thinking clearly the first week)!

3. I keep cancer of the esophagus in mind
when I'm feeling weak. Of all the things that could happen to a smoker, that one scares me the most.

7. Deep, cleansing breaths.
I tried so many times and it finally stuck. Hardest thing in the world. I pictured some guy in an expensive business suit with cowboy boots and a cowboy hat sucking on a big cigar (JR Ewing style type). Everytime I got close to giving in I would do my breathing and picture that particular guy getting extra money signs if I were to buy a pack. Hang on, it will be a while before it is better but it will be.

9. Don't.
No, really. Booze relaxes the nerves but also decreases inhibitions... and inhibitions, specifically against smoking, are what you need right now. I can't tell you how many times friends of mine have quit smoking for weeks or months, only to relapse during a night at the bar.

Remember that the cravings to smoke are caused by a DISEASE: addiction to nicotine. They're not your best self talking. And keep up the good work.

10. Hey there Ms. Moon over Camel Toe...
I've been awake over 2 hours now and haven't had one. Even went to the store to snag some sausage and didn't buy any butts. Today's gonna be a nervous and jerky day all around, eh? ;-)
