I finally got banned from FreeRepublic yesterday (after over a year)

I think it was my statement that I don't consider homosexuality to be a "perversion" (another poster's characterization of it).

Gee, I lasted over a year posting moderate opinions on everything from the environment to whether Bush had a "mandate" to Social Security to same-sex marriage. They finally banned me for saying that homosexuality wasn't a perversion...

They assign you a password when you register (which you can then change). Ironically, I was assigned "666666"...I thought it was appropriate :)

4. A couple of times, I got PMs from people who agreed with me.
Overwhelmingly, though, people were....how to put this?......"resistant".

3. I don't know how you could hold your tongue for over a year
One of them would say something and I would go off. I have a problem with that anyway, If it is in my head, it usually is out of my mouth in a heartbeat. I don't have a filter between my brain and my mouth it seems. I have noted too that most Freepers and Fundies are TERRIBLE at spelling, so, I guess I would be amazed that they didn't nail you for using proper spelling and English in your posts.

5. I didn't try to be "one of them" by misspelling or taking on reactionary
views, I just presented myself as a moderate Republican (which I used to be).

I just think it's funny that I was banned because I didn't think gays were perverts. I took relatively liberal stances on many other issues, but the gay issue is what offended them so deeply.

7. did you have a chance to suggest that they were all gay
before they booted you?

I've been over there a few times but never posted and have always left within a few minutes in rage and disgust. Do they have logical arguments for anything or is it all based on brainwashing and bigotry?

14. Naw...up until the time I was booted, I was trying to keep a low profile.
About 10% of them did have logical arguments...we just had a difference of opinion. The rest just spewed garbage.

It was kinda like the 9/11 Forum here - but the WHOLE site was like that.

Heaven help you for not thinking the way the Sheep do! How dare you have a free mind! ROFLMAO. As far as Perverts, I don't know, my best friend is gay and TRUST Me, he is a HUGE Perv. 15. Actively being a pervert is fine (within certain legal boundaries).
Their argument was that being gay was in itself a perversion. I believe that the exact response to my contention that gays contributed equally to society and were just as intelligent as straights was something like:

"What's so smart about spreading AIDS?
What's so smart about going to hell for living a perveted lifestyle?"

I just replied "Well, some of us don't consider it a perversion."

...and I got booted.

Damn touchy, these conservatives...

I'm just curious. Seriously. Were you getting anything out of the experience? Do you think you were making a difference?

The reason I ask is, I've often wondered if I could actually pull off being registered and - keeping moderate, centrist, and/or "stealthy" - carry on a productive debate with anyone over there.

As a life-long Canuck hard-lefty, I'm not sure it's even in my genes to sink to their level. And, the very thought of being in the same (cyber) room with a guy named "I got the rope" sends shudders down my spine.

Just typing that sent shudders down my spine. Ewww...

11. I Used to Post in the Politics Section of a Fundie Christian Forum
I would post various Scripture and ask questions. Portrayed myself as moderate. Was labelled a wacko pinko commie. It was kind of fun in a wierd way because I got to keep asking the same kinds of questions over and over. And the answers I would get were completely irrelevantm and illogical. With time they got more and more extreme. The mods on that forum allowed absolutely no discussion of abortion and homosexuality. Do I miss being there? Like gasoline misses fire.

17. I didn't go all the way with the persona.
I didn't agree with anything I really didn't agree with and I NEVER joined one of their many "prayer circles". That's probably a factor in my banishment. I didn't have a "conservative" track record.

I swear, none of my posts deviated from what a legitimate moderate conservative might have posted, though.

20. I lasted about 2 years with one ID.
However, I couldn't resist one day posting a Bob Boudelang-like article to see if anyone would agree with it. I posted that under a different user id, and the mods must've matched IP's and banned both userids.
