Anyone here seen Spun?
Weird movie... saw it a few weeks ago, and keep thinking of it...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283003/

It's about speed freaks. That's pretty much it, really.

1. I thought it was quite funny.
Laughed the whole way through. It certainly couldn't be described as a "serious" drug movie. Some of the scenes were just hilarious (Mena Suvari on the toilet, Peter Stormare's bust sequence, Rob Halford as the porno shop clerk).

3. Oh yeah I laughed, too.
But that ending... I keep wondering... was Mickey set up by the rich dude? WTF happened?

4. Oh yeah
I wanted to watch it again, but had to return it. :(

Loved the driving sequence with Ross & Nikki... sad and crazy... I kept thinking they were going to crash.

5. What a weird movie!
I saw it a few months ago, and by chance, it was on cable last night. I think it was on Showtime around 3:00 am. (don't ask what I was doing up at the god awful time)

It is a really interesting look at the meth underworld and is quite alarming, although scary and humorous at the same time.

All in all, I think it was done extremely well. (ie. acting, cinematography, and script)

12. Warning SPOILER....I know this is twisted...
But I was disappointed that Mickey Rourke got blown up in his meth lab at the end. I liked his character, perhaps because I like him as an actor and all the dark, surly, and roguish roles he portrays.

16. I didn't like it either
ESPECIALLY because I can't figure out how it happened... too soon to have been a result of his lab... was he set up by the rich guy? An explosive in one of those cases, maybe? I hate confusing endings.

6. That movie was great.
I give props to Chloe Hunter who spent the entire film chained to a bed naked. That is above and beyond the call of acting.

9. Um....
You know she was acting, right? And that they probably shot those scenes all in the same day?

LOVED Debbie Harry's role. :D

13. Um
You are kidding, right Queen. There were 5 or 6 scenes in which she was nude. The fight scene in which she was locked to the bed alone took over 10 takes. All of her scenes were shot over several days, and all of her scenes were nude. She talked about it on Howard Stern in detail. I'm sure she wished it was only one day's work. Film making usually take a little bit more time than one would expect.

My comment was an attempt to giving her credit for choosing a role which required quite a bit of courage. She is a fine young actress. Many young actresses shun parts involving this level of nudity in a "mainstream" film. She is a mainstream actress who has not yet appeared in Skinamax type films. I believe the nudity was carefully edited and helped display the depravity of Jason Schwartzman's character and the influence of speed on his character, who tried to rationalize this insane decision. It was a grand film.

15. Whoa!
I had no idea it would take that long!

I'm impressed... thanks for clearing that up... what was the total screen time for those shots? Something like 10 minutes max?

I'm thinking the film crew maybe just wanted to see her naked and tied up a lot.

18. That might be part of it
In my youth I was "in the industry." Mostly crew for some NY indie projects, but a few studio projects too.

They usually kick out the crew for these scenes. Just the cinematographer, directer, sound guy and one or two crew for the equipment. I don't think she has that kind of clout though, so yeah, lots of crew got to see her tied up naked for hours.

All scenes take lots of time to shoot. The last film I worked on, I was in the post production team. We had over 150 hours in the can for a ~2 hour film. This is more than average. But most studio films have in the 100+ hour range for a 2 hour film.

Lots of waste.

11. It was ok
A bit of clever editing, a light story, likeable characters. But it suffers from the typical pitfall of the Hollywood drug movie - the beautfiful drug addict. Ain't no such thing outside of Manhattan and LA. It doesn't exist. It can't work. It doesn't happen. Shit, you stay up for a couple of days without a makeup crew and see how you look.

Broadly enjoyable, but I frankly don't have any lasting impressions.

14. That movie was pretty realistic....
When I was a meth freak my life was kinda like that. I'm glad they used a lot of humor in it instead of making it a really serious anti-drug movie.
