Ever walked out on a movie?
Or turned off a rented one before it was half over? If so, what was the film and why?

~never made it through that pretentious bore that was "Waking Life"...

1. No.
Any movie bad enough to walk out on is bad enough to make fun of.

I didn't walk out on it but a lot of people did. The scene where he pulls the two
Jersey Girls over did if for most people.

with Michael J. Fox. I don't remember exactly which scene got me - I have a hazy memory of him meeting an "older" woman who turns out to be an aunt by marriage - but I remember being annoyed no end by something on screen.

I had a 3 month old baby and there was a scene in the movie the insinuated a baby was murdered. I think it was the first post-baby, babysitter date night as well.

5. Three . . .
Looking for Mr. Goodbar -- at the very end when she gets killed. It was a crap movie anyway - can't believe I sat through that much of it.

The other was Alien when the thing came out of his stomach. I about lost my cookies & couldn't believe the rest of the movie would not be just as gross. Found out later that it wasn't.

Ismael -- just cuz it was such a crappy movie.

23. I don't recall the name of the movie
but it was about this guy who was accused of murder and was in jail and this lawyer got him off and then found out that this guy had killed his parents( not the person he had been in jail for murdering)The movie started with a law professor giving an argument to his class against the death penalty.

I realized this movie was a set-up to attack the argument again the death penalty by making it seem like we don't have to worry if we occasionally get the wrong guy because he's probably just murdered someone else that the authorities haven't discovered yet. I walked out as soon as I realized this.

30. Oh yeah!
Hand that Rocks the Cradle : The moment when the nanny is about to breast feed the couple's child. I was outta' there!

Clockers: The scenes where the main character was having debilitating stomach pains. Just annoying and kinda' gross for me.

The Fifth Element: My dh couldn't handle Milla's character's voice. I was falling asleep.

I WISH I had stopped watching AI: Artificial Intelligence. What a piece of crap! It was a rental, and I really wanted my money back for it. It was that bad. I just kept watching it thinking it had to get better. It never did! Truly one of the worst things I ever saw. Quite a disappointment.

32. Freebies in college.
I walked out of "The Bedford Incident" (I kept waiting for something to happen) and "The Blue Angel," neither of which I'd paid for, as they were free movies at the student union. The first just didn't intrigue me, despite the good cast, and the other one I tried to watch on a beautiful afternoon. I decided it was better to get outside than watch a depressing German movie. I took a degree in German but still know my decision was the right one. :-)

I WANTED to walk out of "Notting Hill." :puke:

36. The Devils
a 1971 movie with Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed. It was grotesque and awful. I eventually read the book upon which is was based, "The Devils of Loudin" by Aldous Huxley, and the director was right when he said that all of the things that people objected to in the book actually happened, but it was still a dreadful movie.

And that's the only movie I've ever walked out on, although there have been any number of video rentals I haven't bothered to finish.

51. Yeah...
But those pasties sure did make a lasting impression.

I remember seeing them again several years later somehow and thinking, "Ohhh I remember those."

I found the parts of 48 Hours that I got to see much less psychologically damaging than "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory"... I had nightmares about that blue chick (Was her name Veruca Salt?) and the guy disappearing in the TV waves for years and I didn't even know what they came from until I was about 20 and saw Willy Wonka for what I THOUGHT was the first time!

Midway through I nearly freaked out, "OH MY GOD! Those are the kids I used to dream about!"

Never dreamt about the pasties.

IN other movie news: despite what an earlier poster said about Doggville (the Nicole Kidman movie), give it a chance...strange stage play format, but the ending redeems the whole flick. Very interesting!!! It's a pretty decent morality play.

...it's supposed to be a great movie. That's why I tried watching it on video. Tried. My stomach is pretty strong, but when the camera hung lovingly over the ear that wasn't, off went the TV. As far as movies in the theater, I read reviews and listen to word-of-mouth before going, just so I won't feel compelled to leave in the middle.

69. It amazes me...
...that people who would NEVER sit and watch a violent slasher film or gory horror like "Evil Dead II" will go and watch that cruel gore-fest and laugh and feel 'cool'.

At least the horror flicks don't feel like something that could actually happen in real life.

But I don't REALLY think you're missing a soul...

55. six weeks
1982, A wealthy cosmetic tycoon (Mary Tyler Moore) and her 12-year-old daughter (Katherine Healy) who's dying from leukemia, waste time with Dudley Moore. The film bores the living snot of the audience with a plot so hackneyed the David Seltzer and Fred Mustard Stewart should be embarrassed to this very day.

Talk about milking tears! The Moores must have been embarrassed, too.

that I get on HBO OnDemand. They're free, so I just usually watch them for a few minutes to see if I like the movie.

with John Travolta and Andie McDowell.
Nice idea. Sort of. But... Really bad execution.
One good scene -- the dance scene.
I had to leave.
It was that bad.
I asked for my money back.
They gave me another ticket.

64. "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover".
The year that came out it was something of a to-do and a must-see, so I and a couple other college-age friends went to see it--and we all walked out after maybe fifteen minutes or so. It was just *gratuitously* gross, and it seemed that all the fuss was really over how gross it was, and there wasn't anything that saved it and made me stay. It wasn't bad simply because it was disgusting...it was bad because it was bad--but the yucky bits didn't really help.

65. "Free Willy"
When the crowd at the marine park started jeering, stomping, and generally TERRORIZING the killer whale for not performing on cue.

The obnoxious brat kid and the ridiculously villainous park owner were bad enough, but generally people who go to marine parks LIKE marine animals and WOULD NOT behave in this way. I felt really insulted by the stupidity of the story and left.

71. One walkout, one turn-off
The walkout was during an absurd British film of Shakespeare's As You Like It, with an urban junkyard representing Arden Forest. The royal court scenes were set in what looked like the lobby of a theater. The sound track was muffled, and the varied accents of the actors didn't help.

The turn-off was the Japanese film Audition when it played on cable. One thing I do NOT like about Japanese culture is their fascination with S&M, and Audition lost me when the razor blades came out.

82. Cujo, for personal reasons
I was attacked by my neighbor's big dog when I was about eleven, alone in the woods. It lunged on me and tore into my right arm, pulling and shaking it wildly, dragging my entire body, and I couldn't do anything but wait for the dog to let go. Even with internal stitching, I still have scar tissue today. For years I was afraid to go outside and play because that dog and others continued to roam freely.

I love dogs as much now as ever before, and I'm not afraid of them at all - I've worked at an animal shelter. But even now, I can't stand to see videos that depict them actually attacking. I didn't realize how it affected me until I tried to sit and watch Cujo.

84. let's see now... Top Gun, Footloose, Sixteen Candles, Uncle Buck...
Ferris Beuler's Day Off, The Breakfast Club (why did I keep going to see these spools of teen angst effuent? My friends LOVED them so I was always outvoted.) I would have walked out of Cocktail, but I was on a double date. It was fun screaming "He's Dead Jim!" five minutes before Bryon Brown offed himself with the brandy bottle.

I've turned off - Darkwolf (possibly the stupidest werewolf movie ever made), Ginger Snaps 2 (oh wait, THAT is the stupidest werewolf movie ever made), Final Destination (just dumb all the way around).

I had to watch Bad Leutenant in two sittings, but I did watch it all... so it doesn't count.

88. Thank God, I'm NOT the only one!
I could barely sit through all of Casablanca, and I normally have a formidable attention span; I like lots of relatively old, long movies, including uber-lengthy Kurasawa epics and documentaries that would kill most viewers. But Casablanca just didn't do it for me. I guess I'm just a philistine.

89. Never walked out of a movie.
But, I have turned a movie off that I rented at the video store. I've done that several times.

The recent one was about some serial killer that liked torturing and killing women. I think I lasted about 15 or 20 minutes thru that low budget crap. The torture stuff was too disturbing and I didn't want to waste my pretty little mind on that.

Other movies:

Something about Charlie (The updated version)
Several of the James Bond movies
Several stupid, low-budget horror movies

98. How could I forget, Howard the Duck...
...actually I didn't pay anything to see it (Thank God). I worked for the theater where it was playing, and was bored and decided to check it out. Talk about a pos. Ugh!

Same theater, while I was working there--I walked out on Never Too Young to Die with John Stamos, Vanity and Gene Simmons. The casting alone should have given me a clue about how horrible it would be. I have since watched it on cable and laughed hysterically. It's so tragically bad it's funny.
