"If you watch TV news you know less about the world than if you just drank gin straight from the bottle." Garrison Keillor

4. I saw his show live over the summer
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 12:57 AM by Ravenswood
At a local outdoor venue. He toured several cities. My S.O. has been a huge fan of his for years, and it was the first time I heard him. I was hooked after that. He has a real gift for storytelling.

6. Keillor makes me proud to be a Minnesotan.
I took this shot at a Kerry rally in Rochester, MN. He's singing the National Anthem, he's at the "and" in "and the rockets red glare".

5. Here's what I just Googled:
"TV news is as bloody as Shakespeare but without the intelligence and the poetry. If you watch television news you know less about the world than if you drank gin out of a bottle" --- Garrison Keillor

The nice thing about chasing down such quotes, is that they frequently lead to other quotes worth saving.

10. Verifiable original sources is something I generally insist on.
On my Union BBS and listserves, I've shot down some really scurrilous CRAP, by showing that the few search-hits were a tight cluster of freeper-like sites ("incestuous daisy-chain"), with NONE giving the source.

Thanks for the reminder. There were a lot of Google-hits on that quote, but I stopped early. Later tonight, I'll dig a little deeper.

8. He has a great book out! Homegrown Democrat!
Get it! Read it! Great book. Nice light read. About his years growing up in Minnesota, how all the good things in life about thanks to liberals...
