Problem..

The spyware is actually advertising itself..

It says that your computer may be infected with it.. and then tries to extort you out of $29.95 to get rid of itself...

I just ran a sweep before e i came in here..:argh:

11. I use spybot
also go to cnet.com and check out their download site. You can search for freeware or shareware and they have a ratings system so you knw if what your getting is any good. I also use an adware program that will get different things than the spyware program gets.

5. It didn't come from DU.
I'm using IE, and have NEVER had any spyware come from DU.

I suggest using a real spyware removal tool that also blocks future occurrences, start with Spybot Search and Destroy.

7. switch to the firefox browser, problem solved.
I have had none of that since I stopped using Internet Explorer. Not only does firefox block that crap, it's a MUCH better browser and it's free.

12. Definitely get Firefox
It's just a damn good browser, speedy, and most importantly it isn't IE! All of my browsing is done in Firefox now, except for accessing one of the systems at work that absolutely requires IE.

9. To remove browser hijacks, try HijackThis!
It's there: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/">HijackThis!
(very powerful but read the page before using it !)

You should also consider switching to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/">Firefox ;-)

13. Better be careful with that, can do more harm than good if
you don't know what you are doing. They do have an excellent support site though where you can submit your list of running tasks to weed out spyware. Best to use that unless you are an expert before removing anything from your computer.

I think for most people Spybot and Adaware will do the trick.
