Leon Russell is a genius!
Listening to Delta Lady. My favorite "worship me" song, ever. :D

1. "Crystal Closet Queen," his tribute tune to Little Richard...
"Cause I can wash a dish down in Macon Georgia,
And help a blind eye to see...
Gonna sing a song of love for you one more time
(Tutti Frutti, the beauty's on duty)
Gonna sing a little song of love for you one more time
(Tutti Frutti, the beauty's on duty)
When the beauty's on duty, you know we're gonna have a time"

:toast:

ALSO from the same "Leon Russell & The Shelter People" album (his 2nd), what is probably the second greatest Bob Dylan cover tune EVER (Jimi's "All Along The Watchtower" being the first): "It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry." FEROCIOUS.

3. God, I Love Leon Russell
His reputation has really faded, but I heard that in 1971 he sold more tickets to his concerts than any other performer. (And think of who was performing then.) What a great songwriter.

My favorite song is "Bluebird" (what yearning and hearbreak!) but there are many close competitors.

And as far as Dylan covers go (previous post), what about "The Might Quinn"? I never particularly cared for that song until I heard Leon's stompin', poundin' piano version.

6. I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung alot songs, I've made some bad rhyme,
I've acted out my love on stages,
with ten thousand people watchin'.
But we're alone now and I'm singing
this song for you.

8. He's from my hometown...
A good Tulsa boy. Delta Lady is on of my favorite songs of his. Of course anybody who writes a song about "Stranger In A Strange Land" can't be all bad.

"Well a-walk and a-talk and a-scream and shout
Gonna tell all the world who I'm thinkin' about"
