Let's not say Washington for symbolic purposes.

I'd say Northern California in January.

Or, Dr. Wierd's house, but the new baby should be sent to Grandmas.

The place makes me grind my teeth. Seriously. It's creepy as hell. But taken over by a few thousand DUers, it may be the perfect place!

28. Vegas is actually a big Dem town.
1. Voted for Kerry overwhelmingly
2. BIG union town
3. Not afraid of things sexual
4. Atheists - and everyone else - welcome
5. Very few regressive laws on the books
6. Not a big fundie destination
7. There's lots to do 24/7
8. Cultural institutions are on the rise
9. Lots of women involved in the political scene
10. There's life beyond the Strip - family life

32. I imagine living there is a lot different than visiting the strip
which is all I have ever done, and that was several years ago as a broke hippie traveling in a van with other broke hippies who wanted to take advantage of the buffets. And to take a shower ;)

50. Yeah--
my brother, sister in law and two nephews! It's a cool town. And relatively inexpensive, barring the top priced hotels. You can still get a room Sun-Thurs for less than $50 most places, and eat as much as you want at any one of the buffets.

but I just have a hard time seeing myself having a good time in a place dedicated to greed, commercial excess, cheesiness and did I mention greed? It's the last city in this nation that I'd want to visit. Now the desert, rattlesnakes and vigaroons, I can hang with that. Different strokes.....

won't go there because of all the "sin" going on there. They hate anyone else having fun.

I got used to being away from the "excitement" when my brother and his family moved there in 1989. There is definitely a lot of life beyond the strip and downtown there. In fact, it's downright civilized. Of course, about 1 in every 5 works for one of the casinos in some capacity, but the money is good, and as someone pointed out, it's a big union city.

NY. It's very accessible, but expensive and far for some.
Chicago is very accessible but not fun.
Denver, same as above.

23. That's right, proles. Chicago has nothing to offer.
It's ugly. And there's never anything to do.

World class museums? Forget it.

Fine dining? I'm sorry. You'll have to go someplace else.

Shopping? We don't even have a Wal-Mart.

I sure that to someone like you, you being from Indiana and all, Chicago might seem like a very exciting place.

But it's not.

I can see why you may want to avoid MO (if you are encouraging Blue State tourism) but remember St Louis City and St Louis County are islands of blue amidst a sea of red.

Both St Louis and Chicago are central and easily accessible by plane.

however HEyHEy, every time I see your posts with the polar bears it reminds me of one of my favourite songs: "Hey, wir woll'n die Eisbärn sehn... unser Leben ist so leer ohne Bär..."
(Translation: Hey, we want to see the 'ice-bears'... our lives are (so) empty without bears...)

This is a song by the Puhdys, one of the leading East German rock bands of the 60s, 70s and 80s; and they are still around today. It symbolised how they wished how people could be allowed to travel about freely and live in a world without walls.

24. How about a centrally located, world class city, that votes Dem?
A place with affordable hotels and great restaurants and museums. A city with easy to use public transportation. A place with fantastic architecture and lots to see and do.

A place were the Republican Party doesn't even really exist.

Oh forget it. There's no place like that. Anywhere.

I'm on a Texas boycott. The state where Kennedy was killed and where Bush's political career was launched is not a place I will spend tourist dollars. Even if Austin is blue. Hell, I'm in blue Columbia, the capital of red SC and I want to get away to blue paradise.

33. Lebanon, KS (don't you want to know why?)
Geographic Center of the 48 States

Geographic Center of the Contiguous United States is located just north and west of Lebanon, KS, adjacent to a pasture and overseen by a friendly-if-nonplussed herd of cows. The Center is a small grass patch containing a 10 ft. high stone podium and flagpole, on which U.S. and Kansas flags fly. A small plaque on the podium informs visitors that a government geographic survey in 1898(?) established this spot as the center of the continental U.S.

I fiugred it be easiest for all.

There are always good flight packages, competitive hotel accommodations, and plenty of cheap eats and drinks. The airport being right in town makes it easy too. Even a modest sized group also ought to be able to get a convention rate in a hotel.

63. Vegas!
It has it all, and then some.

The Strip et al is bearable for a day or two, but it's also (away from all that madness, though poker machines in every convenience store and gas station is a constant reminder of where you are, the Las Vegas Valley is a surprisingly normal SoCal-like place. And the desert and mountains nearby are very nice.

Cheap to get to, good food (cheap, still, if you know where to go), and home to pretty much every form of entertainment known to humankind (people-watching most definitely included). A den of iniquity and excess presided over by a surprising number of Mormons (hey, they know where the money's at), it's as much a contradiction as the United States itself.

And, no, this is not just because I want to see NSMA in a bejeweled jumpsuit...
