How do I get the flash to turn off on my camera?
coolpix 2100
I cannot figure it out. I have started covering it up with my finger when I don't want that much light.

1. Did you look in
the menu or setup.
I have a Kodak 7590 and it has a pop-up flash. I leave it close if I don't want to use the flash.

I'd say your flash is there at the ready at all times. The pop-up flash on my camera was a selling point for me. I like to control my camera sometimes.

Edit -Found this: "...and operates in Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Anytime (Fill) Flash, and Flash Cancel modes. In some Assist and Scene modes, the flash mode is automatically set for you.

So maybe, depends on what you are doing.

7. I wouldn't be surprised if the flash can't be turned off.
I was using someone's Nikon APS film camera and there was no flash off button either. I had to use my finger to cover the flash while taking pics of the jellyfish at Monterey Bay Aquarium.

I can't believe some modern cameras won't allow you to turn it off.

8. same here.
I am hoping for some random weird command that isn't obvious, but it seems unlikely. I guess camera designers think the world is a very dark place, they must be Bush haters. ;-)
