4. Not until there's a draft
Or do you mean for romantic purposes...probably not.

I've always had the fantasy I'd die before my wife.

6. My first vote in a Presidential election was for
Jimmy Carter, and he lost. You do the math.

7. We're the same age group.
I first campaigned for Anderson but my mom sat me down and had a long talk with me about third parties. I was only to support them if it hurt the Republicans.

I campaigned for Carter and he received the first vote I was legally eligible to cast for president.

14. Ah, John Anderson...
Looked like Dennis the Menace's Dad. I wonder what ever happened to him? Surprised he did not do the cable news/write a book circuit.

34. LOL, good question. I just found him
Yes he did. Only with white hair. I found out what he's up to at http://www.fairvote.org/about_us/index.html He's running the Center for Voting and Democracy outside of D.C.

The Center is dedicated to fair elections where every vote counts and all voters are represented. As a catalyst for reform, we conduct research, analysis, education and advocacy to build understanding of and support for more democratic voting systems. We promote full representation as an alternative to winner-take-all elections and instant runoff voting as an alternative to plurality elections and traditional runoff elections.

********

I didn't pay much attention after the election. Reagan was in office and I tried to console myself in watching my two favorite college players (Johnson and Bird) from the 1979 NCAA tournament takeover the NBA.

There was a lot about Anderson that I did like. I wish he had won the nod instead of Ronnie. We would have gone down a far different path than the one we find ourselves on these days. Of course, if that happened we may not have gotten Clinton/Gore because the GOP noise machine/campaign crooks won't have had so much power during the 80's and 90's.

10. I missed the 1968 election by being one year too young.
I was so pissed that I had to wait until 1972.

And you guys got to vote at 18!

17. I have some questions for you, too
Number one, why are you posting this on the politics forum rather than the Lounge?

Number two, why do you ask?

Number three, do you understand just why it is never recommended to pose such questions on a public forum, ie, asking the age of the posters here? You may unknowingly be exposing personal information to someone who trolls forums looking for kids. It DOES happen -- I've seen it.

Lastly, do you have anything else to contribute?

I just missed voting in 1984. I voted in 1985 for local stuff, but had to wait until 1988 to vote for president. I must admit that I voted for Ron Paul, the Libertarian presidential candidate, in 1988.

What can I say? He was a socially liberal Texan.
