Everyone make sure your smoke alarm is in working order!! I'd even
go around to all tenants to check theirs if I was a building manager. not to sound all melodramatic, but I just had a close call and am so grateful for smoke alarms and that I was home tonight. I kept waking up to an annoying alarm sound, but I've had to to endure long car alarm hell before when trying to sleep and it wasn't as bad as that but persistent and annoying, so I finally got up and tried to locate the sound. It took me a moment, but I figured out that it waa coming from the I knocked but there was no answer. I could faintly smell smoke and fortunately the manager lives next door to me so I woke her up and she unlocked the door, but there was a chain blocking the way, which she must have installed herself, but I finally got it undone while the manager called the fire dept. anyway, there was no fire yet (I felt the door first, just like I learned I elementary school) but minutes away from one in a burning pot on the stove. I found my neighbor passed out sitting upright on the couch, drooling and/or foaming at the mouth and was freaking that I couldn't wake her up, but she snored and moaned a bit so that was a little reassuring, although when the firemen got there they measured her pulse and it was at 100, she was brought to the hospital, I hope she's ok. the firemen said they smelled alcohol and they looked around for medications, finding some bottles that didn't have her name on them. they asked us if she'd been under emotional stress lately-neither of us know her that well but we had both heard her boyfriend nearly shouting angrily sometimes, and noted the chain on the door which she had installed herself. god I hope she's doing ok. I'm sure the landlord's going to be mad and say she's irresponsible if the tx screen is not good news, and taking someone else's meds, damn, that's a big deal, sin't it? shoot I'd take a friend's vicodin if I had a migraine that wouldn't go away, but damn, gues that's pretty risky. so I'm babbling here, just still wired and feeling reflective on life and circumstances, what if I hadn't been home, what would have happened to my cat? what would have happened if I hadn't woken up, or decided to try to ignore it, the hallway alram would have gone off before the fire reached my apartment, but I feel bad that I didn't respond sooner when hearing that alarm, every minute she inhaled that smoke was a minute I lay there cursing the sound of the alarm.

thanks for listening. hope I can go back to sleep, thabnk god tomorrow's Saturday! thank god for du! alive all the time, 24/7 how reassuring, thank you all.
