Poll question: What Should Be The Punishment For Ron Artest?
I haven't formed an opinion yet.... I am a huge Shaq Daddy fan therefore anything that weakens the Pacers makes me happy....

Also, I don't like the Pistons for beating my Shaq and the Lakers in the championship series...

1. Tell me again why Ron Artest shouldn't be punished?

He didn't have to go in the stands after a spectator threw a bottle at him.

2. He didn't do anything wrong. He was provoked on a number of levels.
Wallace shoved him HARD, to begin with, and he was man enough to walk away, lay down, try to calm down.

Then that fan fucks with him in the state that he's in. I'm sorry, but that would be enough to set me off. I don't blame him at all for kicking that guy's ass. THEN motherfuckers come and try to start a fight with him on the FLOOR.

They sure did get what they deserved.

Just fuck those people. Stupid-ass fucking mob mentality.

5. If that was the case, it would definitely make it much less justified...
But, again, the guy was pointing and yelling at him. And I've yet to see who the person actually was.

Where did you see this?

8. I taped the replay of the game.
They had a long shot of the whole crowd behind Artest
when he was lying on the table. I watched it numerous
times until I could see the guy who threw the beer. When
Artest ran into the stands, the guy who actually threw
the beer (white cap, blue shirt with "Wallace" on back)
remained still with his hands in his pockets as Artest
rushed by him right toward the dork in the dark shirt
who was jumping around and who caught Artest's attention.
Artest grabbed the wrong guy.

21. Yeah but...
Eventually, he got a couple knocks on the right guy, who was the older man in the hat that took two swings at Artest before Artest could try to land a punch on him.

14. He is responsible for his own actions
Having a tough night and a non-call go against him isn't an excuse to be a dickhead.

The fans and Wallace are also dickheads and are responsible for their own actions as well.

He doesn't deserve more than a 3 game suspension, but they'll wnat to make an example of him, and give him a big fine to go with it.

15. Both should be suspended...
Artest 10
Wallace 3

Wallace attacked Artest and Artest attacked the fan - because they were publicly embarrassed by a smaller person - not because of self defense or injury - the only injury was to their egos.

As for Shaq - he's a, zero skilled, no-talent mutant. If the refs called the game correctly - he would foul out every night.

22. Get familiar with the rules of the game...
...and the skill level needed for accomplishment within the rules - then take a look at Shaq and tell me what you see.

Shaq was chosen to be the pr poster boy for the NBA to fill the vacuum left by Jordan - which meant that Shaq was untouchable and can get away with murder.

"...universally acknowledged by basketball analysts..."

Analysts?? - why don't you examine the facts and form your own opinion?

You might have heard - according to some "analysts" - the election was fair and square.

can pass the ball just about as well as anyone in the game right now, and is incredibly quick and agile for his size.

And if the refs called the game correctly, Shaq would be at the foul line for 38 minutes.

37. it's obvious that you really don't know much about shaq..
you've already formed your opinion, and your entitled to it. How many games a year have you seen him play? The obligatory bimonthly Laker game on national TV? As a Laker fan, I was able to watch Shaquille quite a bit, and there is a lot more to his game than you are willing to give him credit for. There are a lot of former players, Hall of Famers, who tout Shaq as being one of the best.

If all it took to succeed in the league was to be big and strong, there would be more big guys like Shaq playing.

Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 05:25 PM by arwalden
It was not a value judgment on your post itself. Your poll did not provide the answer I would have given, so I provided it myself.

Come on now... you're a pretty smart fellow. You've seen this happen before.

"A little touchy?" --- NO. This is my standard response to snotty replies telling me to sit down and shut up.

>> If I posted a snarky comment on every thread I thought was of no value or interest I'd have been run from this board a zillion times... <<

Clearly this is an emotional issue for you, Brian. But, sometimes people have opinions that are different than yours. Cope.

Check the rules, Brian. The last time I checked, sarcasm and offering a different opininions are not prohibited.

>> And I hardly think I was making "wisecracks", "idiotic insults", and "personal attacks"...<<

Bullshit. Yes you were, Brian. You made a direct comparison between me and the idiot in your analogy. The "who-me?" act is not convincing.

>> It seems most folks are enjoying the thread... <<

That's nice. Does the enjoyment of others give you a free pass to make personal attacks on someone when you disagree with (or take issue with) something they have to say?

>> Peace <<

What an odd thing to say.

That's cool

I was just curious why you had to let me know by posting that...

When I go to the mall I might visit a handful of store and pass the rest...

It never occurred to me to tell the proprietors of the stores that I didn't visit that I wasn't interested in their goods...

In any case it wasn't intended to make you upset... If I did I apologize...

You should watch the tape of the melee anyway... It's wild...

Peace

50. This Is Pointless.
You're ignoring what I say and imagining that I say the things you want to hear.

I did see the tape. My interest in your poll was to voice my opinion. I do not care what his punishment is one way or the other. You didn't offer that as an option, so I expressed that opinion in the subject line.

This is not a shopping mall. It's a message board. Sometimes folks post opinions that you don't agree with. That's the whole idea. Wow! Go figure! Who knew, huh?

I didn't realize how protective you were of your threads, Brian. I've learned my lesson. I'll avoid posting anything in your threads that fall short of complete agreement with you, or that may fall outside the bounds of acceptable answers and opinions. Your "goods" will remain unspoiled.

He attacked one guy who may have been the wrong guy who didn't throw the cup, from the clips I seen I did not see who threw the cup. But it can be difficult to make an accurate judgment when you don't expect cups thrown your way in the first place. What he should've done is called the refs over, review several camera angles and have the guy arrested. But... you know when someone is holding anger inside (especially after controlling himself After a push, Ben Wallace charging, having a towell thrown on him and having Ben Wallace charge after him some more as well as other Piston players and fans provoking him) they can easily be set off, that is essentially what happened. Now after watching several hundred replies at least, the second person he went after was the guy who punched him from behind while he was being held back by security. Not all were "innocent", the Piston fans started attacking Pacer players who had nothing to do with the Ron Artest situation. AH I'm staying away from Ron Artest threads for the rest of the day, I find it unbelievable he is getting all the bad press for this when he was not the main problem for this melee, he certainly was the center of attention though. Wtf was the fan thinking throwing a drink at ANYONE?
