DUKE GAME TONIGHT!
First televised preseason game for my 2004/2005 Blue Devils! They will be systematically picking apart Tennessee-Martin live from Cameron Indoor Stadium tonight at 7p Eastern. I have to watch it on Fox Sports South, though. Three of my least favorite things, all rolled into one tv network's name.

But YAY! Duke game tonight! :bounce:

1. Hey, I'm From Kansas....
I don't like Duke...but I won't hold it against you...We, KU, barely won last night...Roy Williams just about melted down out in California, from what I read...

3. I don't post anywhere but here, really.
I've been a Duke fan since I was 3 or 4. Grew up in Durham. So - what's the prevailing mood in KS re: Roy? Do you guys hate the tarholes as much as we do, now? ;-)

5. Well I Did Last Year, But Now I'm Worried About Roy's Health...
Apparently he stomped out on the court last night so loudly you could hear it all over the arena and then turned beet red and shouted MOVE THE BALL! Apparently they didn't... ;) The Jayhawks played poorly last night but we're still number one and the money players came through at crunch time even though they played poorly. I had some soft feelings for Vermont given I am a Deaniac, and they have some fine players although they haven't gotten much pub. We play St. Jo's Tuesday, but they've lost their two stars so don't know what to expect.

We have a lot of potentially great freshmen, but they're wet behind the ears and have a lot to learn. It'll be the seniors and JR Giddens, sophmore, who will have to shoulder most of the load.

I really like our new freshman from NY, Russell Robinson, although he played tight last night. He is quick, has long arms and seems to make mature decisions a lot of the time.

I haven't followed Duke yet this year. Who is still on the team...?

I'll be honest though....I never root for Duke, even though they are playing the Tar Heels...

Dickie V's homer screaming for them alone is enough to instill dislike...in my little Jayhawk heart.

But I still like you 'cause you post on DU. Nice Avatar and name too.

10. who is still on the team?
Redick, Ewing, Randolph, Williams and Dockery are just about guaranteed to be the highest PT players this year. And that's not a shabby team. I just hope they have some bench with all the noobs. Really pissed me off about Luol Deng leaving after his fuckin' freshman year. Duke could've been a contender this year if he'd stuck around. Of course, since he chose to go, good riddance, and I hope his NBA career is brief and unproductive.

12. Could you imagine how awesome they would have been if...
Deng stuck around and Livingston didn't go in the draft. They could have gone undefeated!

14. It could've been a very good year.
But I think the team that actually showed up this year's not bad. I'm really interested to see who starts tonight (I think it'll be the 5 I mentioned), and how some of the unknown quantities on the bench fit into this. I DO NOT want to see another season where Duke has a fabulous starting lineup and no bench. That's been Coach K's curse for a long time - tired starters at the ends of big close games just not being able to pull it off.

I fear that this will be their Achilles heel this season

19. It's a shame
Horvath couldn't stick around for something like his 10th straight season. He was always a good guy to throw in the game when you needed someone on the opposing team oafishly gooned about the head.

It's only a matter of time before the rabid tarheels fans hijack this tread and tell us how much they hate our greatness. Unfortunately the game won't be shown in my area but I'll be rooting in spirit!

I went to high school with his son, Steve Jr. Boy makes * look like a fuckin' genius. But he got into Duke undergrad. Yup. 'Cause it was in daddy's contract. Of course, the same applies to Debbie Krzyzewski, who was also none too much brighter than dirt, but got into Duke undergrad.

I really fuckin' hate the school. I only like their basketball team.

(Tarheel alum here. But I don't get overwrought about the rivalry.)

Too bad Coach K is a repuke though. Campaigned for that Dookie Elizabeth Dole.

Dean Smith campaigned for Kerry/Edwards.

Don't tell anyone, but they're actually my 3rd favorite ACC team. My basketball loyalties run from Durham to Raleigh over to Chapel Hill, in that order. But sayin' that around here could get me lynched.

someone who actually will root for BOTH Duke and UNC in the same season!

I went to UNC but I live & work very close to Duke's campus. It's fun to be so close to all the basketball crazies (Durham Raleigh & C.H.)!

Are you a native Durhamite, or a transplant? I was born right down the road in The NC School of Science and Math, back when it was "Watts Hospital."

26. Wow, you *are* a native Durhamite!
You being born at Watts Hospital is kinda cool. Glad the NC School of Math & Science saved that great old hospital and restored it.

I'm a native North Carolinian, being born "down East" as they say.

Undergrad at UNC brought me to this area and I couldn't bear to live in small-town North Carolina again. I ended up settling in Durham, which I refer to as my "adopted hometown." I've been here 17 years now.

27. I like Durham a lot,
though I moved away about 2 years ago to see what rural Orange County was like. It's pretty cool out here, too.

If ya wanna, and yer not afraid I'll lounge-stalk ya, you should look me up sometime for a battle of the Durham vs. Hillsborough barbecue joints or somethin'. I went back to Bullocks for the first time in YEARS just last week. I still say it's no Allen & Son. ;-)

28. You're right.
Allen & Sons is top-notch. Bullocks is just serviceable.

There is a place on Guess Road in Durham, not much to look at restaurant-wise, but it's pretty good eats (reminds me of down-East barbeque places). It's called "Hog Heaven Barbeque."

Rural Orange County is beautiful. I ain't skeert of no lounge-stalking, BTW.

30. You know where the Maple View Ice Cream store is?
That's my part of rural Orange, more or less. It's the closest commercial establishment to my house.

We've had one or two Triangle-area DU gatherings there before. There are actually quite a few of us in this area. I've had no clue you were here, or I'd have pestered you mercilessly to come out and join us. In fact, when we have another one, I'll make it a point to pester you about it. ;-)

BTW - Hog Heaven - where on Guess? I know that road like the palm of my hand!

33. Duke is my favorite
but I will root for any ACC team. Grew up in Baltimore during the Lefty Driesel era. My mom was in love with Jimmy V, so we watched lots of NC State ball. I really think the ACC is the best league year after year.
