1. Because she's on drugs?
Only reason I can think of for smiling at such a time.

10. I didn't
but then I didn't walk down an aisle, either. In a Universal Worship wedding, both bride and groom kneel in front of the altar-no 'giving the bride away'. We took each other as 'the most sacred trust from God'. Frankly, both me and my husband were so high spiritually that I'm glad we didn't have to move much, 'cause I don't think we could have!

12. THAT is cool !
The thing I always despised about Catholic weddings was the woman being given away - from one man to another - as if she was a household appliance.

If HippieEclecticWriterSlackerDude and I ever make it real, we'd walk to the minister TOGETHER, side by side, as equal partners.

13. Because she's finally snagged her man and is having the wedding
she's dreamed about since she was about five. Not to mention she's smirking at all the single women in the pews who haven't yet scored their groom. The bride's happy visage will last about five minutes after the honeymoon when the reality of all that marriage entails sets in. I mean, the compromising, the adjustments, the unrealistic expectations, the hard work to hold it together...it starts wearing pretty thin pretty fast. And soon the wedding and the smile down the aisle fades into oblivion, and that divorce thing looms its ugly head. Well, in over 50% of marriages, at any rate.

All that being said, I did not have my moment in the sun--that glorious wedding day where I was the center of attention and waltzed smiling on the flower-strewn carpet. I got married by a JP, just me and my fella, and almost 38 years later we're still here, together, makin' it happen. Hasn't all been glorious, but I came to terms with reality soon enough to deal with it.

Besides, you know what they say: "Nothing's planned for as long and over as quickly as a wedding and the Kentucky Derby."
