This is Patsy. She's a vicious killer. Shown here with the remains of her latest victim. Sorry about the size of the picture.

6. She's a cutie pie.
I gave her a bath today, cleaned her ears, and brushed her teeth. She will not let me clip her toenails, so she'll have to go to the vet for that. She's a goofy little thing!

7. Warning about the bone!!!!
I have a dog who's about the size of your Patsy. We gave him one of those type bones that fiance had bought at the local petstore. He grrrhed at the cats, proudly carried the bone around, gnawed on it all Sunday and even snuck it under the covers Sunday night.

Monday morning when we woke up, he had thrown up in several places. He was acting a little punky so we kept an eye on him. Monday afternoon around 3ish, I picked him up and put him in bed between the two of us while we were watching some t.v. We noticed he was trembly and he also refused one of his favorite treats. We decided to take him to the vet just to make sure he was ok. Turns out we nearly lost him.

They ran blood tests on him and found he was severely dehydrated and some of his blood chemistry was out of whack. Not exactly sure how the rating system works but on the dehydration, 60 is when organs start shutting down and our pup was at 57. He stayed at the vets until Wednesday afternoon and they rehydrated him with an IV.

The fun bone proved to be a pretty costly treat for our pup. We called the distributor of the bone and they told us to send all of the information in since we weren't the first this had happened to. We're waiting on their insurance company to reimburse us for the medical bill.

8. Wow!
That must have been scary! What exactly was wrong with the bone, that caused him to get so sick? Thanks for the warning.

9. The vet said
this kind of thing can happen with all dogs and processed real bones. It's in the different ways the manufacturer's process the bones to keep them from spoiling. The bone we bought had been smoked and was wrapped in that really heavy shrink wrapped plastic. We took the wrapper to the vet's office because over the phone he thought it was a bone we had gotten from the local meat market.

We thought it was safe for him since we bought it at a reputable pet store. The vet said that smaller dogs are more susceptible to having their blood chemistry get out of whack with these bones than the big dogs are. He also said it didn't matter whether the process was natural as in smoked or whether it was chemically preserved.

Fiance paid about 7 or 8 dollars for the bone and it ended up costing us 350.00 at the vet's.

11. Nope. It's just a regular $7.99 collar from the supermarket.
What exactly is a Gentle Leader bark collar?
